Cut And Paste Church

We’ve been visiting a lot of churches over the last couple of months trying to learn from others and see what does and doesn’t work. While I think this is one of the most important parts of preparation for any church launch there is an inherent danger.
It’s easy to try to build a cut-and-paste church.
We try to copy this style of worship, mimic that style of preaching and duplicate everything in that children’s ministry.
Copy and paste.
Click and drag.
We can learn so much from watching other ministries but the most challenging thing for me is to not get so wowed by what everyone else is doing that I lose sight of what God has called me to do.
Easy to say. Tough to do.

Good word bro. I think this is one of the biggest mistakes planters make. We see something done somewhere and try to recreate it and it doesn’t work.
I would love to see more planters cut this out and just figure what God wants to do in their community through them and how he has geared them for ministry.

Boyd…I agree. It is a pretty tough temptation for church planters, especially where there is so much good stuff out there. I’m not saying we can’t learn from and use what other people are doing, just so long as we don’t allow our vision to get hijacked by what other people are doing.

Try living in an area 30 minutes away from North Point Church, sadly a lot of what my “church” does, programing wise, ends up being an imitation of NPC.

You’re right. It’s tough. You see what people respond to and you want the same response. But that may not be what God is asking you to do. Hang in there. I can’t imagine the challenges you face.
