How Could I Do This If My Wife Died?

This past weekend leading up to today has been crazy. It’s that time of year and we have our annual tax appointment which has got to be one of my favorite things in the whole wide world.

There’s nothing better than sifting through months of receipts, invoices and expenses to see how much we owe Uncle Sam. This year is especially crazy since I have my Freelance Design company taxes as well as my taxes from working at the church.

Thankfully my wonderful wife has been doing the brunt of the work in Quickbooks leading up to our appointment today. And by “brunt” I mean pretty much all of it. She only does it because she knows that if I were to attempt to do what she is doing my brain would short-circuit and I’d be in a rubber room sipping my food through a straw. No, seriously…I would!

She wanted to sit down with me and try to explain how she had everything organized so that if she ever died I would know where everything was.

I told her that if she died, going through tax records on Quickbooks was pretty much the last thing in the world I would want to do. I’d probably burn the house down, collect the insurance and move to the Bahamas with the kids.

Would that be wrong?

Just pay your taxes before you jet and make sure you don’t use Wesley Snipes tax advisers.

lol…I love you Chris. I didn’t say I’d be hiding in the Bahamas. I’d probably do some…umm, missions work…or something. :-)

Scott, You know what they say about the two things in life you can’t avoid…death and taxes.

Jason, your advice is duly noted.
