Music Video from The Mountain Goats
POSTED IN: Culture, Music, Videos
I always love watching fun new music videos that utilize simple, old-fashioned creativity and thumb their noses at the big-budget productions that try to wow us with sweeping camera shots and special effects. How’s that for a nice long run-on sentence?
Music videos like Ok Go’s Here It Goes Again or Feist’s 1234 are the kind of unique, creative videos that are fun to watch.
Here’s another one to add to my list of favorites from a band called The Mountain Goats. The video is a single from a new LP coming out later this month (check out all their music on iTunes).
Watch this video and tell me what you think.

Yeah, these guys are what’s known as a low-fi. A lot of their music is recorded using extremely simple recording equipment (sometimes boomboxes) to get their desired sound. They’re supposed to have that unpolished, recorded-in-your-basement sound.
Not everybody likes it but I kinda dig it. But like you said, you’ve gotta appreciate the creativity in their video.

Very creative, tons of work. I like the song, don’t know if I love the sound. I feel like Simon… I’m going to say no to Hollywood. But what do I know!

Yes, but you need to say it like Simon does…
Oh well, you know me. I like some pretty weird music.

That was absolutely hysterical. I am so glad my treadmill is at the lake house and not in Fort wayne where Dan is! Of course I didn’t understand a word they said, but that is not unusual for me. Have a great rest of the day!

The black and white video reminds me of that old show on either VH1 or MTV where they showed you the lyrics to songs as the videos played. And the treadmill video is a classic one. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention.
