Remember Me
POSTED IN: Authenticity, Makes You Think
Inspiration can be found in the strangest places. This morning I was logging into Wordpress to write a blog post when the checkbox under my username and password caught my eye. Remember Me.
I know what it’s supposed to mean but I started thinking, what is it about human nature that has such a strong desire to be remembered? We all want to leave our marks on this world. None of us want to simply run out the clock on our lives and just exist. We want to leave a legacy behind.
I was reminded of this at a funeral over the weekend. Paul Mason, a man I had the privilege of knowing for almost three years, died last week. I didn’t expect to be as emotional as I was at the funeral but I was overcome by the incredible legacy of faith Paul left behind.
Person after person recounted Paul’s love for God and his earnest desire to share it with anyone who would listen. They talked of his faith in God that didn’t waver even after months of fighting a painful cancer. If Paul was listening from Heaven, as I’m sure he was, I can imagine that he would have been proud of the life he lived.
Here’s some food for thought on a Monday morning. If you could pick 2 or 3 things that you would like to be remembered for when you died, what would they be? I think most of us would agree that our first goals in life would be to love God and love our families so let’s take those two off the list and dig a little deeper.
How would you like to be remembered? What would you like to be remembered for?

This is a 10,000 leagues under the sea kind of question.
Since we’ve already established the top priorities, here’s my answer. When my time is gone I want people to see that God can use anyone. It blows my mind sometimes that God would use me- an imperfect man. I can’t recall who said it but this quote is true. “God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called.”
I would also hope to be known for a guy who was authentic and passionate full of truth and grace. That I loved people where they are and not where they should be.
Most importantly, I want to point people to Jesus. He’s the hero. I want my legacy attached to his legacy. When people remember me, I want them to remember the one who rocked my world, Jesus.

I think I’ll get in on the comments since I left the question open-ended and didn’t answer it myself.
My love for God and family aside, I would like to be remembered for my creativity and innovation. I’d like to turn my city upside-down and redefine what a church and Christian looks like.
And finally I’d like to be remembered as a genuine, honest, likable guy who wore his heart on his sleeve. I want to be remembered as someone that people enjoyed being around and talking to.

i want to be remembered as someone who did it as hard as he could no matter what. i want to be known for giving it my all in everything.
and honestly – i want to be remembered as a friend. i want people to think back to times that they shared with me and say – “you know what… blake was always a friend to me. always”
a) that being vocalized means that i need to work on “giving it my all” and always being a “friend.”
b) is it selfish to just really want to be liked?

Blake, I don’t think it’s selfish or wrong to want to be liked. I think that’s how God created us…to want to be wanted.
To be remembered as a good friend is a great thing. I hope I’m remembered as one.

I would like to be remembered as someone who loved to laugh and who saw the humor in life.Someone who didn’t take herself so seriously!! Someone who was always opened her home and welcomed people in.
I’d like to be remembered as someone who loved everyone I came in contact with and made them a friend. And as someone who wasn’t afraid to pray with people anytime or anywhere!!!

I would love to be remember for . . .
My passion to see people connect with the living God and run wholeheartedly after him for the rest of their lives, fullfilling their God-given calling
and . .
For showing the love of Christ to all people, regardless (that’s a goal eh!)

Well, besides the two you already mentioned…
1) My compassion toward others and willingness to listen
2)My creativity and ability in music and in art

I want people to remember me by saying, “yes, that was Denny and Chris’ daughter. She made them proud of the woman she is.” …. or something to that affect. My parents gave my sisters and I all the tools we needed to leave our mark on this world. I hope to make them proud by the person I am and continue to become.
And finally, I want to be remembered as the girl who found the best in everyone and every situation and capitalized upon those moments to make awesome memories.
My list could seriously be never ending, Brad!
