Amazing New Witnessing Technique!
Post Category: Authenticity, Blog Posts
I was driving through a parking lot over the weekend and came across these two vans parked a couple of spaces from each other.

I imagine they were inside the restaurant leaving a 5% tip and a christian tract for the waiter after complaining about their poorly prepared food and gossiping about the Jones from church.
Ok…that may be an exaggeration. They probably left an 8% tip.
By now I’m sure you’re picking up on my obvious frustration with these kind of people. I’ll readily admit that I have to go to the Lord frequently to ask His forgiveness for not loving them the way that I should.
It’s far easier for me to extend grace and compassion to even the most heinous of sinners than it is to love judgmental “Christians” (and I use that word loosely in this context).
I have to question the heart of people who choose to apply stickers to the back of their minivans warning of hellfire and judgment when Jesus himself summed up the entirety of the law into “Love God…love others.” (Luke 10:27) Why can’t we put that on the back of our vehicles?
I really do think I’m growing though. At least I didn’t get out of my car and peel the lettering off their back windows.

Well written . . .
Those things bug me too, but I couldn’t word it as politely as you did!
Yes, I have to agree with Travis on this one. I think I’d have to profusely apologize to God for the things I’d be thinking when I saw that.
And yet, we don’t know for sure whether or not those people live lives of authenticity. We just assume that they don’t because they loudly witness.
Hmm.
i used to wait tables. and it is true - church people are the worst. i always leave at least 20% now. now - i always leave the even dollar. if it is $40.00 - i leave $8. if it is $40.01 i leave $9. and so on.
tips are how these people make money. you don’t get pay checks as a server. tips are your income.
i will get off my soap box now.

I’m with Abbey and Blake both. While I too understand being frustrated with their witnessing tactics, we really have no idea what they are really like. It’s too easy to draw conclusions based on one thing.
As far as tipping, yeah, been there. The first, and only time, I waited tables was in Florida. A guy I worked with told me, “Do whatever you can to get out of working the Sunday afternoon shift. It’s super busy, but it’s the worst tips you’ve ever seen.” He actually had a guy give him nothing but a christian tract as a ‘tip.’ Some people will say, “well why should I tip more than I tithe?” To that I respond, give more to God then!
That’s my two cents.
how’d u find my van?
Maybe this guy and his friends took a road trip.

Good post
So the question becomes…
Does God even love the owner of those cars?

Let’s hope we can show Christ’s love to those who are hardest to love (whomever they may be).
Wow, looks like you guys have lots to say about tipping…I’ll have to work that into a future blog post.
Evan…that’s what you get for driving around with those kind of stickers on your van!
Anonymous…you’re exactly right. God does love those people as much as anyone. And I’m the first to admit that I need to get my attitude right. It’s just hard sometimes!!
