Daddy Daughter Date

Yesterday I took Chloe, my oldest, on a date (we call them “Daddy Daughter Dates”). With all we’ve had going lately it had been a while since we’ve been on a date. The older she gets the more fun it is (and the more she talks my ear off!).

We got an ice cream and walked out on the pier to watch the surfers and fishermen. While we were out there we saw quite a few jellyfish which Chloe thought was pretty neat. She also lost her flip-flop off the edge of the pier so we had to sit and wait for about 20 minutes while it washed ashore.

When we got back I gave her a necklace with a locket and a tin can. Inside the can was a mussel with a pearl inside of it. It took us about 10 minutes but we eventually dug the pearl out and put it in the locket which she thought was pretty special.

I enjoy times like these with my kids because I realize just how fast life goes by and how precious every minute is.

Do you go on dates with your kids? What are some of your most special memories?

I have two boys and one daughter. I try and take my kids to normal errand running places with just one at a time. It makes my 6 year olds day, to get to ride in “Daddy’s Car” and go get the oil change.

And I also try the special dates from time to time.

So, Brad, you’re the guy that keeps the tank top on the market!

Brooke and I don’t have any kids yet, but I’d love twin girls. ‘Cause I’m crazy.

That is great man. I love when I see Dad’s investing time in their kids lives, that time will pay off huge down the road. I started doing breakfast dates with my girls 9 years ago and they are so much fun. It is getting harder to do these as they get older because of schedules. Take advantage of this season!

I posted something very similar while on vacation about my little girl (http://www.visualtrademark.com/?p=160).

Crazy to think that our baby girls actually grow up. I have not yet had a date with Jade, but I think I should start real soon…

    Thanks for sharing!

I don’t have kids yet, but I am a daughter and my dad used to take me on daddy-daughter-dates! They were awesome times for us, even though we didn’t get along very well. We tried very hard to understand each other.
Now that I’m grown up, I initiate the dates and we still do what we used to: ice cream, breakfast, garage sale-ing. It’s an awesome thing to have with your daughter. Kudos to you :)

Oh you wait… last year we were in Florida and I allowed our daughter to take her boyfriend. She and I were having a few Dad/Daughter moments and then the boyfriend came down so **they** could walk down the beach together. What does a Dad say when his daughter who is about to enter her senior year of high school turns and looks at me and says, “Daddy is it ok if ____ and I go walking?” And you sit there quitely on the wooden steps watching your little girl walk off into the sunset holding hands with a guy. I got all teary eyed which I don’t do often.

…. then I jumped up and ran down the beach and walked between them…. HA!!!!!!!!! Ok, I didn’t… but I wanted to.

    Enjoy your kids!

Being only eighteen I don’t have any kids but my mom always took me to the Bloomington Street Art Festival when I was younger. It was so much fun. I always hated it when I was little but I now realize how awesome it really was. It was always cool. Summer air, loud music, lots of crazy art people.

By the way do you have any resources for HTML. I don’t know much but I need to redo the layout of my blog cause my Flickr photos are too big for the layout and it’s being fairly gay about it too.

Thirdly, my church is redesigning their website. I can’t promise anything but I gave your name and site to the staff.

Fourthly, where are you guys. Is that a beach down South or one of the great Lakes?

Brent and i try to take the kids on a date once a month. Kass was born on the 17th of April and Kota was born on the 18th of Oct. so we’ve decided that on the 17th and 18th of each month we would have a date with the kids. I take Kota one month and Brent takes Kass. The next month we switch kiddos.

hmmm…that looks confusing writing. it isn’t.

    the kids love it!

My dad took us on dates, too. Even through college he’d always try to find a time to take one of us girls out for breakfast or something when we were home for a weekend.

Do you guys have a house yet?
