I just added a feature to my blog that I should have added a LONG time ago. This new feature is called Gravatars, which stand for “Globally Recognized Avatars.” Pull that one out at your next dinner party if you want to impress the socks off someone (or let them know how big of a geek your really are).

In simple terms, Gravatar allows you to associate a small photo of yourself so when you comment on a blog your avatar appears. It’s simple and can be set up in less than 2 minutes.

So what are you waiting for? Go get your Gravatar on! Then come back and leave a comment so we can put a face with a name!

Hey, I never said it was the newest, hottest thing in blogging! Just that it was new for my blog.

Come on everybody, party like it’s 2003!

  3. Becca on July 1st, 2008 8:00 am

    Does it work? I hope?

  4. Mud Puppy on July 1st, 2008 8:04 am

This should be globally recognized by now. :)

  5. Brad Ruggles on July 1st, 2008 8:08 am

Oh yes MudPuppy, you are most definitely globally recognized with that doo! ;-)

You got it. Just plain old me. But the heart is different. You can’t see it in the picture though. Thanks for believing and supporting. The journey has begun!

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with 2003. It’s nice to put names and faces together, isn’t it?

OK, I just did my Gravatar and it shows up fine in my account - everything appears to be set up correctly, so I’m confused about why I’m nothing more than a generic gray box here.

  13. Brad Ruggles on July 1st, 2008 10:28 am

@juliepersinger - If you just set it up it may take 30 minutes or so to show up. Check back on http://en.gravatar.com if it’s still not working.

By the way, I should note that these Gravatars function separate from any avatars you have set up in Blogger, Typepad or Wordpress. So just because you have an avatar in one of those it still may not show up elsewhere without a Gravatar

@Brad, it shows up fine on the Gravatar site and I went through their Help features to make sure. Must just take some time.

Well, here I am cursing your mad graphics skills once again Brad Ruggles!!!

(does that sound at all like end of cartoon monologing? it’s supposed to)

Seriously though, dude I always love seeing the little extra pieces of artwork you create for posts and such. You have such a keen attention to detail and just a very prominent talent. I work with designers and artists all the time that rarely ever seem as enthused about their art as you seem to be… and consequently, theirs holds much less passion and heart.

That is so interesting, yesterday I was just about to ask you how I can get my pic there. So church planters can read the minds of their readers even when separated by continents? Wow - pretty cool.

Brad - adding gravatars to my blog comments has been on my to-do list for a while now. you beat me to it. and you also motivated me to finally get around to knockin’ it out. so … do you mind sharing what code and/or WordPress plugin you used to make it happen? i’m currently looking at doing it this way … http://tinyurl.com/2ysqew … but i haven’t tried it yet. email me back when you can, please. thanks!
