The Day I Thought Would Never Come

POSTED IN: Authenticity

I haven’t been blogging much about the details that have been coming together over the last couple of weeks because honestly, I was afraid I would jinx it! (how’s that for amazing faith?)

But as of 11:00 today we’ll be signing our name 50 times, handing over a check, and when all is said and done we’ll finally have our own house again! (I can’t believe I’m actually writing those words!)

When we moved out of our old house in Fort Wayne I never could have imagined the crazy journey we had in store for us.

Here’s a look at what has transpired since April 9 by the numbers:

  • 5000 – miles we’ve driven (here, here and here)
  • 11 – states we’ve been in
  • 3 – suitcases we left Fort Wayne with. They were supposed to last us 3 weeks in Florida (here and here) but ended up lasting us 3 months
  • 23 – number of mortgage agents Lisa called after our first deal fell through on the house
  • 4 – the number of mortgage companies we sent paperwork to, were pre-approved by and spent countless hour on the phone with before being denied
  • 13 – the number of different homes and hotels we’ve lived in
  • 93 – the total number of days we’ve been on this crazy journey

There are something you can’t measure though.

Like the number of times Lisa and I asked each other if we were really doing the right thing.

Or the number of times we laid down at night in a new bed in utter frustration and discouragement.

Or how close we’ve become as a family.

Or how much our faith in God has grown.

This has been a costly and trying chapter in our lives to be sure but I know that we’re going to look back on these 3 months and thank God for the invaluable lessons He taught us.

But for now, I’m thankful for the little things.

Like going to sleep tonight in my own bed, in my own house after three long months.

Pre-approved just doesn’t mean what it used to when you’re self employed does it?

Congratulations on finally making it through. I know it was a trial, but I know those things make you stronger as a family so in the end it’s worth it.

Three suitcases… those words blessed me. Crazy, I know… but I am trying ot get my life down to 2 suitcases. And if your family can get down to 3, then I can get down to 2. Congratulations, in a very big way. I am quite certain God is already doing an amazing work THROUGH you, and it’s already a lot of fun to watch. Stay blessed

I will ditto the Congrats. I know what its like to live out of a suitcase when Gavin is in the hospital. But the longest has only be a month. I can’t imagine doing that for 3 months. But finally this chapter of your life will close soon and now you will have a new one starting at 12 o’clock or whenever you get done signing your name 50 times.
    Congrats again!!
