Crazy Things I Did as a Youth Pastor – part 2
POSTED IN: Randomness
One of the events I put together when I was a Youth Pastor was a Western night. It was a blast. We even brought in a real square dance caller and had a good old-fashioned square dance (although many found out square dancing was a whole lot trickier than the hip-hop stuff they did).
In keeping with the Western theme of the night we had several “Western” style games. They ate baked beans in the old west, right? Why not bob for tiny candy bars in a bowl of baked beans! You may notice that many of the games I organized gave the kids opportunities to do gross things in front of a large group of people to embarrass themselves and impress their friends (one of the secrets of great youth group games).
Bobbing for Candy Bars in Baked Beans
We filled the bowl full of baked beans and mixed in around 15 of those little bite-sized candy bars. Ready, set, go!

We made sure to cover the table and their clothes with plastic garbage bags because it does get a little messy.

They couldn’t use their hands so when they found a candy bar they had to spit it out, chunks and all onto a plate.

Ahh, the joys of watching teenagers hurl chunks of candy bars and baked beans! It’s a beautiful thing.
What was the best theme party you’ve been to or organized? What games did you play?

BloChunks night .. all based off of Revelation 3:16 where God says that our lukewarmness makes him want to throw up.
it was a night of games that were just nasty nasty eating games.
The worst one was called, “can you eat it”, where they picked the worst items they could find asked “Can you eat it” to each one and then through it in a blender … nastiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life to this day!

i have been a part of many :gross things: in my life….
~ :blender night: mystery items in a bag….put in a blender…random :milkshake: you must drink…summer…trailer…..tight quarters….no ventilation…..puke….
~ we had our own western night…..valentine’s banquet style….
paper on tables…ketchup on a strip of tin foil that was running down the middle of the table….no utensils….girls in nice dresses….needless to say it got a little messy and it was not because of the lack of utensils.
~ man challenge… 4 stations….swimming in freezing water….carrying a ridiculously large log up a hill….push ups…..then mystery bag….you and a partner must complete all these challenges together….equally sharing the responsibilities…..puking/frost bitten boys make for an interesting night serve
oh the memories

I’m also a lurker but I have to agree that that looks sick! I spent a long time as a volunteer high school camp activities coordinator- the grossest thing we did was a game called “Tampico Challenge” you know- that sugar juice that comes in milk jugs? We’d get a different color/flavor for each team and the first team to finish the gallon wins… except its impossible to drink that and NOT puke. We had garbage cans lined up and the kids at camp chanted “vomit! vomit!” Pretty gross! But, hilarious!

LOL…..That has to be one of the sickest picitures I’ve ever soon! My husband was a youth pastor for 3 years and we did some pretty nasty stuff with our kids too. The grossest thing I can remember us doing is Fear Factor (our style) We had them all over at our home that night and the challenge was to find 15 or so of the grossest foods in our refrigerator and cabinets and mix them all together and see you could drink a glass of the nasty mixture.
Surprisingly enough many of them took the challenge. Some of the things they chose to add in were mayo. pickled pigs feet, (we had bought those and put them in the cabinet for them to choose…hehe) sardines, texas pete, sour cream, cottage cheese, ect. We had one girl to throw up while trying to get it all down. I was in charge of mixing it all, and the smell was even too much for me to handle.

AHH!!! I remember that night. I think we were all freaking out and the girls spent quite a long time in the bathroom cleaning up!!! How wonderful. Right now, we’re throwing stuff in a blender to see if it will blend! LOL.. not gross but largely entertaining!!!

The game sounded like a lot of fun, but we could have done without all those pictures. I may have to try this one with our middle schoolers sometime.
We played a game one time where we had to bob for clothes pins in applesauce. Then we had to clip the clothes pin onto a string using only our mouth. We had applesauce everywhere!
