15 Things I’ll Miss About Summer
POSTED IN: Family
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a summer guy. I really don’t like Winter. If I had my way it would only snow for the month of December (you’ve got to have a white Christmas, right?) and then spring would be from January to March, Summer would last from April through September and Fall would be October/November.
We just celebrated Labor Day which is the yearly reminder that our Summer fun is over and Fall and Winter are just around the corner. Here are the top 15 things I love and will miss the most about summer.
15 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT SUMMER:

One of the first signs that Summer is just around the corner is when the girls get to wear their Easter dresses and hunt for Easter eggs.

What is it about a beautiful summer afternoon with a nice breeze and a good book that just makes everything seem right in the world?

I’ve always loved Thunder Storms. There is nothing better than going to bed on a summer evening and hearing the thunderclaps off in the distance or the pit-pat of rain on the roof.

One of the best things about summer is sitting around a good campfire. There is something mesmerizing about looking at the flames and hearing the snap and crackling of the firewood.

I’ll admit, the last few years I haven’t been biking nearly enough. But this year I’m genuinely going to be sad about hanging my bike up for the Winter.

Summer was made for taking quiet walks in the woods with someone you love.

I love, love, LOVE Hammocks! Put me in a hammock on a breezy summer afternoon and I’ll be out like a light in no time. If Lisa would let me, I think we would have a hammock in our bedroom.

I love waking up on a Saturday morning and heading to our local Farmers Market – the bustle of people, all the great food, the music, the art.

I have two little girls who love to go to the park. They can play for hours on slides or swings. And I’ll admit, pumping my feet and getting super high on the swing makes me feel young again.

There are so many fun Summer Festivals we love going to as a family. All the music, great food, cotton candy and fun things to look at!

I know it’s summer time when I can finally stop buying the half-ripe fruits and vegetables and get some good, garden-grown tomatoes and cucumbers.

We’ve had the opportunity as a family to go on some great family vacations. You’ve got to have times where you get away from everything, re-connect as a family and just enjoy life.

Lisa and I have always enjoyed the water. The sound of water washing up on a beach is one of the most relaxing things in the world.

You know the kind I’m talking about – pretty much anything that you blend, put rum or fruit juice in. Nothing says summertime like a drink you can stick a tiny umbrella in.

I love to grill. There’s nothing better than standing over a grill on a hot summer day with a cold beer. Pretty much, I enjoy grilling so much that I even rebel and bring my grill in the garage and will fire it up during the winter too. But there is just something about the smell of steaks on the grill when you’re outside mixed with the smell of fresh cut grass and the sound of birds chirping in the trees…*sigh*
I’m going to miss you Summer. See you again soon.

I hate to play favorites, but this might be my favorite bradruggles.com post. Or maybe I’m just biased about summertime.
I do love the summertime.

I agree with all of the above…besides the froofie drinks. It is a matter of time before I convince my wife to move to Hawaii, Southern CA, or any place where I can enjoy these things all year round.
No, I would not miss winter. Maybe fall a little.

@nate – come on Nate, don’t tell me you don’t enjoy a fruity drink with an umbrella while sitting on the beach!
@Vince – ummm, I think that was bragging. And I don’t like you.

When I lived in my hometown, California, I used to LOVE Summer. But ever since we moved to Texas (5 years ago) I hate it. I am not big on the “humidity” and “thunderstorms”. I LIVE for cold days in the Winter. I actually miss the snow we used to get when we lived in Japan and Maryland. Now that we’re moving to NM, I look forward to being close to the snow in the mountains.
If I was writing this post it’d actually be titled, “Things I WON’T mss about Summer.” And top of my list? Mosquitos! Augh. They drive me insane. I just came in from outside and they bit me all over. And I sprayed myself with Bug Off! [Ana scratches arm] =/

I love the stress free life of summer.
I always take off the month of June and travel somewhere which I LOVE to do.
The end of summer brings business back (which is good because it pays the bills) but it also brings the stress of clients etc.
Froofy drinks eh? Maybe if I am out of the country where no one can see!

I’m going to miss many of those things as well. However, I think I’m just going to bring the fire indoors. I love a fire in the fireplace.

The only thing I’ll miss about summer is volunteering at the veterinary clinic. I can wait for the other stuff to come around again. Besides, winter isn’t so bad. I love to wrap myself up in layers of clothes and take a walk in the snow. It’s so beautiful…and I have to agree with Mamirosa & Co. about the bugs. Summer and winter are both very different, and both fun.

Wow — Your graphics are great!
I can think of LOTS of additional things I’ll miss!
I’ll miss not having to wear a coat or jacket when I go out.
Picnics and Quiet Times in the mountains.
Bunnies in our yard.
Lazing around all morning (I’m the high school piano accompanist, so don’t have this luxury in the school year).
Parades, Rodeos and County Fairs.
Motorcycle rides with my husband.
Flowers.
Not having to scrape ice off my windshield.
I’ll be sad to see the summer end, but I could list a lot of things I like about the fall as well.

Great post.
The great thing about summer’s end though is the Fall! I love summer the best but the Fall has some very redeeming qualities.
In fact…stay tuned to Stacked Actors for a blog post on why I love Autumn.
Of course, I haven’t the slightest clue how to make my post as sexy as yours.
