Cracked Pots

POSTED IN: Authenticity

Sometimes I forget how really unimportant I really am.

Don’t take that the wrong way. I know we’re all created in the image of God and have the destiny for greatness within us. But in the grand scheme of this life I live on the planet I was born onto I am so tremendously under-qualified for what I’ve been called to do.

“We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That’s to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us.” (2 Corinthians 4:7)

I don’t know about you but from time to time I need to read that verse and be reminded that my simplicity and brokenness is a showcase for God’s beauty. As a matter of fact, my ordinariness was one of my best selling points on my job application when God hired me.

On my very best day I’m nothing more than a cracked clay pot holding and dispensing the most precious gift in the universe. So don’t get confused if you see me say or do something great – that’s just a little more of God’s awesomeness shining through the cracks of this broken pot He chooses to use.

Any other cracked pots out there?

You know what is funny.. I was just thinking about a sermon when I was in high school that had to do about being the clay pot. Its a great reminder that God will keep trying with us until we are exactly the way he wants us to be! How encouraging….

I love my family more than anything but I still struggle to keep my passions and priorities in order. I’m passionate about the Church, its influence on culture, and making it better. I’m constantly challenging the process - examining what I do, why I do it and its relevance in today’s progressive culture. read more
