Weekend Design Watch
POSTED IN: Creativity

I have to admit, I’m a sucker for contemporary furniture with clean, simple lines. I could walk through an Ikea or Crate&Barrel for hours or buy just about anything from Design Public. The problem is that all the pieces I like are so gosh-darn expensive. So even though I can’t buy most of the stuff I see I still enjoy looking.

These rocking chairs were designed by Chicago-based designer Scott Wilson as part of a collection of minimalist furniture collection. When you think “rocking chair” you probably don’t picture a chair that looks like this, do you?

Here’s my question for the Weekend Design Watch.
What decorating style are you? Contemporary? Retro? Traditional? (more styles here)
Where is your favorite place to shop for your style?

According to that quiz, I’m “eccentric”. I guess that means I’ll take anything, lol. Well, literally, I’m at a point in my life where I’m gathering everybody’s hand-me-down furniture in preparation for moving out after college, so that’s not too far off. =)

My style is “eclectic.” I would have said that even without the quiz, though…
And I think those rocking chairs are kind of ugly, but they do look really comfortable.

I am a contemporary eclectic with leanings towards French style art. Though Most of the art in my house was painted by me.
I have tried to convince Ikea that they should let me live in one of their apartments they have in the store — but they don’t like my animals.
Of course here in Nashville we don’t have Ikea….I miss California. Currently I don’t have a favorite place to shop since Ikea is 4 hours away. I have found great pieces at goodwill, garage sales, and craigslist.

I took that quiz, even though it was targeted at women, and it said I had a hip style. Minimalist with certain twinges of African and Asian styles. I guess that’s pretty true. Ikea is like a theme park to me.

I am honestly a mix of the three. Does that even make any sense? But I definitely am. I can’t seem to totally let go of some traditional flavor. But I would say mostly contemporary with a little of the other two in there. I am def. a minimalist! I like rooms that are simple, crisp, and and clean.

my favorite place to shop for my style…
garage sales/2nd hand stores. Maybe that sounds cliche, but it’s true. It’s cheaper, and you don’t feel so bad about whipping out your sawzall and customizing it.

I love the chairs. They would totally match my rug in the living the room in my condo. Lovely!
