I wrote about my personal thoughts on the whole bailout thing today. Not from a Christian standpoint, but just as a tax payer.

Other than what I wrote I would say, fire all the politicians. I know that’s not going to happen, but that’s how I feel about it. (And it needs to happen)

I do think opportunities will present themselves to us to standout and to shine Jesus to a confused world.

First of all, great post! Secondly I definitely see that are country is in for some even rougher times. And just like everyone else, that thought scares me, but I know whom my hope is in, although I can already see it beginning that faith beginning to be tested.

However, I think you are right, we were placed here for “such a time as this.” It’s time for the church to be stronger than ever, show the world a hope beyond relying in it’s finances.

Great post. The unfortunate side of this is that fear spreads. When fear spreads people tend to react to one another and it becomes harder to focus on what to do to fix it.
Although our faith tends to lend us that helping hand, it is hard to keep focused and see that there will be a positive end.

All I can say to the above posters is keep positive. We, although tough at times, have amazing lives and gifts. It all works out in the end if we just keep positive and focused.

Personally, I have stopped listening to the negative voices. It has helped gain clarity.

Brad, I can only say that I believe all of “this” is to test our faith and belief that God will provide for us, better days ahead. In December 2007, I lost my job with an organization I had been at for almost eight years, found out I had cancer, drained my savings and 401K to pay for medical needs, had surgery… and my divorce was finalized. My marital home, which I handed over in the divorce, is going into foreclosure because of decisions that I did not make, yet the repercussions will most likely still affect me.

My daily struggle is not to let the things of this world get me down. God has bigger and better ahead for me… this “stuff” is nothing…

…although it still stresses me out and keeps me up at night.

hah…i’ve been unemployed for 3.5 months, and the budget drained state unemployment refused unemployment compensation. Neither my wife nor I can find a job, even though we are both highly qualified. At the moment we are surviving off expired food from our church food pantry and selling off all our stuff to pay the mortgage. (anyone want to buy a the computer I am using right now…an HP dv2125nr in great shape?)

“When so many have placed their hope and confidence in their jobs, retirements, and income, what do we have to offer when their security is ripped from their hands?”

While I haven’t placed ‘confidence’ in such things, they are a means for survival. My confidence (though weak as hell at the moment) is in God.

For my family, a long and painful recession is no longer in the future tense.

Great post, Brad. It’s a scary time we’re in. I don’t believe we, the church, should get all ‘end times’ crazy, but this is a reminder that we can’t count on anything in this world. “I lift my eyes unto the hills, where does my help come from? I think that there’s no mistaking the fact that our country is in some hot water… so to speak. I also think that God definitely knew what he was doing when he put us here for such a time as this… It’s definitely a little unnerving, though…
