Bye Bye Beard

POSTED IN: Blog Posts

I shaved my beard today.

Keep in mind that I use the word “beard” loosely here. My beard is nothing like these guys and I definitely don’t have enough facial hair to warrant “beard updates” like my blog buddy Bush.

The truth of the matter is that my genetics don’t really allow me to grow a beard. I can grow a moustache and some hair along my neck, chin and jawline but my lip must have had a falling out with my chin because I just can’t get them to connect.

That didn’t stop me from letting my “beard” grow for the last month-and-a-half. Regardless of whether or not you could that patch of hair along my jawline a beard I still enjoyed it while I had it even if my wife didn’t.

Emily and Chloe both noticed immediately that I had shaved. Emily’s response: “Dad, you cut your fur!”

Guys, do you have some facial hair or could you be on a Gilette poster?
Ladies, do you prefer to kiss your man with a little hair on his face or freshly shaved?

But for kissing…smooth like a baby’s butt is best. Wait. Not that I like to kiss my baby’s butt…oh, never mind. You understand.

    @Mandy – ummm…yeah, I won’t even touch that.

I’ve been growing out my beard for a month or so and was going to put up a sequence of shaving on my blog per my wife’s request (probably for the same reasons as Mandy) tonight.

With the beard you looked kind of ringo star-esque (minus his large nose).

I constantly go through periods of growing and consequently shaving off beards. My wife doesn’t mind the small beards…she gets a little annoyed when it gets scraggly though.

Check out my last good attempt:

It depends on the guy, and you definitely look better without. For another example of d.o.t.g., think back on the Jackson patch. Not many people can pull that off…=)

My hubby can grow a beard in about three days. I’m not sure you want all that goes with that, though. ;-)

He’s had a beard long enough that no one who knows him would recognize him if he shaved it off. When people see old pics of him without it, they’re all, “Who’s that?”

My husband has a goatee and I don’t mind it. A little scruff once in a while is okay too, but nothing more than that! Full on beards are too much and mustaches – well let’s just say on some guys – they just bring to mind some sleezy porn star actor!! 8-p

@Janaki – I always think guy’s excuses for growing beards are funny – playoff beards, hunting beards. My excuse always was that I would never shave on vacation so I grew a vacation beard.

@Patty – Yeah, when I shaved my beard off I started by just shaving everything except my moustache. I totally had the whole porn-star thing going on. No way in heck I could ever sport that look.

No problems growing a “commercial style” beard. I have always had that one gene that lets me grow it just enough to look like I am ready to hike but not too much that I look like Grizzly Adams.

    Wife hates it though.

I like my husband to have facial hair on him. Unfortunately, the military is very strict on that. It has to be closed shaved everyday… However on his days off or on vacation, he lets it grow out and I love it.
