Call + Response

POSTED IN: Social Justice

While I was at the Catlayst Conference last week Justin Dillon shared about his new project that hit selected theaters last week called CALL + RESPONSE.

CALL+RESPONSE is a first of its kind feature documentary film that reveals the world’s 27 million dirtiest secrets: there are more slaves today than ever before in human history. CALL+RESPONSE goes deep undercover where slavery is thriving from the child brothels of Cambodia to the slave brick kilns of rural India to reveal that in 2007, Slave Traders made more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks combined.

Don’t just skim over the facts without letting that really sink in:

There are MORE SLAVES TODAY than ever before in human history!

In 2007 Slave Traders made more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks COMBINED!

I hope those facts mess you up as much as they did me. Watch this trailer:

(click here if you can’t see the video).

CALL + RESPONSE is a unique documentary because its goal isn’t just to present the facts but instead to provoke a response. The web site gives you a host of ways you can take action against the injustice of slavery in the world we live in.

In the words of social and political luminary Dr. Cornel West,

Never forget, justice is what love looks like in public.

I’m not going to let you off easy on this post with just a simple comment. The Bible says that doing justice and loving mercy is a minimum requirement for following God.

I want to know, what are you going to do about this?

I saw the trailer for this and was amazed. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the movie Trade or not, but it’s basically telling the story in a fictional form. Some scenes are going to make you squirm, others might make you want to throw up, but since when is the reality of sin a comfortable one?

I’ll be honest, I don’t know what I’m going to do. I want to do something, but I’m not sure what to do. I’m going to check out the website and investigate ways I can take part. Thanks for the post.

I’m not asking you to do anything I’m not willing to do myself.

Here’s what I am going to do about this issue:

I have already contacted CALL + RESPONSE to organize a showing of this film in my area so I can help spread the word. The only way this kind of tragedy will be brought to an end is if more people know the facts and take action.

What are you going to do?

Thanks for helping bring this issue to light Brad. Their website is great with providing simple things that people can do. “Chain Store Reaction” seems like a simple way to do something. I just contacted them to about getting the movie to our city, people, myself included, need to see this.

I just sent about 3 emails to chain stores from the information that you provided.

That just makes me sick to think that they would use slaves to make a product that I love. Something has to be done, and done quick. I also sent an email about getting that information here in Fort Wayne.

There is also something that I’ve known about called Invisible Children that started in 2003. They are about the children in Uganda running away in the night to stay away from becoming a Child Soldier. Since then they have started to have peace talks between the countries to stop this craziness. Because of people like this making it aware to the world something is being done…. http://www.invisiblechildren.com

    This is not impossible
