Weekend Design Watch: Olympic Logos
POSTED IN: Creativity, Culture
Right now, the year 2016 still sounds far enough away to feel “science-fiction futuristic” but the Olympic committee is already reviewing applicants for the 2016 Olympics. Here are some of the logos submitted by candidate and applicant cities.
Personally I would love to see the Rio win since the Olympic games have never been hosted anywhere in South America but I’m not quite sure what I think about their logo. I’d have to say Chicago’s is the coolest.

I like Madrid’s logo the most — it looks like the hand of a precious child.
On a different note, check out my blog for my entry to Abraham Piper’s “50 Words or Less” Blog Challenge. His personal blog is “22 Words” — I’m glad he let me use 28 more words than he normally does! He calls it “Blogospheric Brevity.” What do you think about that?

No offense but Tokyo’s logo looks like a gay pride parade.
And if Chicago got the nod, wouldn’t that be a significant cap off at the end of a two-term Obama presidency?

I love the fluidness in Praha’s logo. Going by logo design alone I would go with it.

I’m with Brian, I don’t really like the logos, but I agree with you on the Chicago logo being the best. I am not sure where all the Olympics have been, so Rio sounds good, now if I can just get some tickets

Brad,
Being from Brazil, I’d love to see the Olympics in Rio, but truthfully, I think Chicago is a better/safer place. I believe Chicago would be safer than Rio even in the days of Capone. But let’s leave that thought for another time.
Let me explain Rio’s logo, even though I’m not crazy about it. The two dark green lumps represent Rio’s famous sugar loaf mountain where you can take the cable tram from the beach to the first mountain and then to the top of the taller one. The lighter green I supposed is their reflection on the blue waters of Guanabara bay, thus the blue color. The golden is the Brazilian sun who bathes its beautiful women in a perpetual tan.
So there you have. Rio’s logo deconstructed.

Madrid gets my vote for logo…but it would be cool to have it in South America, so Rio gets my vote for location.
