Your Favorite Christmas Albums
POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Music
Thanksgiving is over and we’re now into December. You know what that means, right? Christmas music!
I’m a sucker for Christmas music. I have hundreds of holiday classics, old and new alike, that I load up my iPod with every December. Here’s a list of my top 10 favorite Christmas albums that manage to get played over and over every year.
My 10 Favorite Christmas Albums:
CHRISTMAS SONGS
Diana Krall & The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra
If you like the sound of Jazz during the holidays you’ll definitely appreciate this album with Diana Krall backed up by the smooth Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra.
WHITE CHRISTMAS
Bing Crosby
How can you have Christmas without this classic album by Bing Crosby? You can’t. There’s something about Bing’s voice, “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas…”
THESE ARE SPECIAL TIMES
Celine Dion
Celine Dion? Just trust me. This is an amazing holiday album that instantly puts me in the Christmas spirit. I especially love her duet with Andrea Bocelli on The Prayer.
CHRISTMAS IN THE AIRE
Mannheim Steamroller
This is another holiday essential around our house. I think this album is my favorite but really all of the Mannheim Steamroller albums are amazing for Christmas.
WHITE CHRISTMAS
Martina McBride
There are few who can sing ‘White Christmas’ like Martina McBride. Even if you don’t like Country music you’ll love her take on these Christmas classics.
A CHRISTMAS STORY
Point of Grace
I had a boyhood crush on the girls from POG but that’s not why they’re in this list. Both this album and their Winter Wonderland are some of my favorite holiday albums ever.
A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER
Amy Grant
There are several original Christmas songs on this album that I love including Welcome To Our World. Amy also sings one of my favorite versions of Mister Santa.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Mariah Carey
What would we do without great Christmas songs like All I Want For Christmas Is You? Chances are you’ll hear that song at least 300 times in department stores this season.
HARRY FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Harry Connick Jr.
Nothing like some good jazzed up Christmas classics. And who best to give us that jazzy new sound that Mr. Harry Connick Jr. His version of Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer is my fav.
SNOWFALL: THE TONY BENNETT CHRISTMAS ALBUM
Tony Bennett
Tony Bennett sings the Christmas classics like nobody else. This is one of those albums like Bing Crosby’s White Christmas that will be a favorite for generations to come.
EXTRAS:
These aren’t full-length albums but they’re worth throwing in the list. I hope and pray that both The Bird & The Bee and Flyleaf come out with their own full-length albums soon. Do yourself a favor and download these two songs right now. You can thank me later.
Carol of The Bells – The Bird & The Bee
Do You Hear What I Hear - Flyleaf
What would you Add To This list?
I know I’ve only scratched the surface of all the great Christmas albums out there and I’m always looking for new ones I haven’t discovered yet. What woud you add to this list?
What Christmas albums or songs put you in the Christmas spirit?

@Gretchen – I wasn’t aware that Andrew Peterson had a Christmas album. He’s got some great music. I’ll have to check it out.
@Adam – I almost included it. I do love that album. If you look at the header of this post you’ll see the album cover made it into the graphic though!

I’m with Curtis .. Relient K’s album is by far the best album for people who aren’t quite as into the normal christmas music. Plus, their originals on that album are some of their best work!

Yeah, Jewel’s CD needs to be on that list. I love the Christmas remix of “Hands”.
Maybe it should be in a different category, but The Messiah by Handel is pretty cool too.

@sTim – I figured I’d catch some flack on the Celine Dion album. Sorry, but this I’m not budging on this one. Celine’s Christmas album is still one of my favorites. Can’t we all enjoy Celine for just one month out of the year?

Okay, we all have our guilty pleasures, I guess. As long as you feel *really* guilty about that one!
Honestly, though, the Third Day from last year and the new Sixpence one this year are both awesome.

For albums, I would add Travis Cottrell’s new album, Ring the Bells and Natalie Grant’s Believe. Also, if you like acappella, try Straight No Chasers album Holiday Spirits. As for singles, few things are better than needtobreathe’s Go Tell It on the Mountain. I wish they would make a full Christmas album.
