POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Childhood Memories

I got on Hulu the other day to watch back-episodes of The Office and was geeked to see the latest classic television show they added to their ever-growing collection – He-Man!

As a child of the 80s I can so remember watching this show on Saturday mornings. I even had the He-Man action figure complete with Battle Cat and the expandable Castle Grayskull with the light-up eyes.

I watched some of the episodes from the first season and, as is the case with most television shows we’ve grown up on, it was decidedly cheesier than I remember. It was still fun to relive the memories. Here’s a classic He-Man episode that I actually remembered.

He-Man And The Diamond Ray of Disappearance

You’ve gotta love Skeletor and the classic bad guy talk: “Very well He-Man. You’ve won this time but I’ll be back!”

What cartoons or television shows were your favorite growing up?

as a child of the 80’s myself, there’s no doubt, he-man was awesome. i collected the figures and everything.

i would have add transformers, thundercats, smurfs, heathcliff, and muppet babies. yeah, I said it.

for tv shows, the a-team, knight rider, miami vice, and all the family sitcoms. i was all about it.

i watched too much tv as a kid. which would explain a lot.

That’s funny! My nephew is 25 (almost 26) now, but back then he was into He-man and Thunder Cats. We watched a lot of Thunder Cats. Oh and the original Ninga Turtles later when my son was little in the early 90’s.

I wasn’t allowed to watch He-Man, because he found his power from a demonic source. Pretty funny – although I gotta admit – I don’t think I’d let my kids watch it either!!!

My cool-aunt (you know, the one that lets you do stuff your parents don’t) bought me THREE-FACE which was so cool. You could rotate his head inside his helmet and he could be a monster, human, or robot. LOVED IT!

I don’t really remember having a favorit cartoon, but He-man & Smurfs were two that I watch regularly. It’s kind of an odd combination now that I think about it.

I was always confused that Man-At-Arms on the TV show had a mustache, but the toy didn’t. What the heck?! Where’s the mustache?!

Of course, the cartoon wasn’t as good as the comic books, and neither was anything more than a sales tool for the toys of which I had MANY!

M.A.S.K. was the bomb! Great animated action!

I remember playing He-Man and She-Ra during recess in kindergarten. We’d race out the door to line up against a wall and some kid who deemed himself worthy would dole out who would get to play each He-Man character!

If there was a cartoon, I watched it. Inspector Gadget, Muppet Babies, Smurfs, He-Man, She-ra, Scooby-Do (although that was when I was pretty young…and I got banned from watching it for a while because of bad dreams…kinda funny.) And I loved Snarf from Thundercats too. Wow. Too many cartoons to name!

Wow!!! Too many favorite TV shows and cartoons to list, but let me just say, I am going to Hulu and am going to watch every one of these. It was a rule growing up that I could not watch He-Man, but ironically I could have the action figures :)

Here are a few of my favorite shows:
    A-Team
    Night Rider
    Fall Guy
    Thundercats
    Transformers
    Gobots
    Justice League
    Airwolf
That should do for now :)

While it is cheesy, I’m going to have to admit that I own all 130-something episodes on DVD.

In fact, when we were cleaning out my mom’s house last year, I re-discovered all of my old He-Man toys (Castle Greyskull, Snake Mountain, and about 75 action figures and accessories). They’re in my gagrage, and I pull them out periodically to share with my kids.
