Vintage Ads From The Golden Years

Here’s a collection of magazine and newspaper advertisements from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Ahh to return to the golden days of yesteryear! You may be surprised by some of the stuff that used to pass for advertising back then…

Vintage Magazine & Newspaper Ads

The problem with women today is that they don’t know their place. Back then, women knew where they belonged. Apparently it was lying on the floor looking at shoes.

Every morning when I’m making breakfast I ask myself the same question. Exactly how much orange juice should I drink? A quarter glass? A half glass? Fortunately this cheerful lady with the red lips and creepy-long hand shows us how just much we should have with our bacon and eggs.

What’s the biggest problem facing marriages? Finances? Parenting? Lack of trust? No, it appears this woman’s problem is inadequate feminine hygiene. The solution? Douche daily with Lysol!

Don’t take my word for it…“Oh, the joy of finding Tom’s love and close companionship once more! Believe me, I follow to the letter my doctor’s advice on feminine hygiene and always use Lysol for douching.” All you need is a daily dose of douching with Lysol to win your way back into your man’s heart and lap.

All you single guys out there, are you having trouble hitting it off with the ladies? Have you tried blowing smoke in her face? According to this ad, if you do she’ll follow you anywhere.

Domestic violence is never acceptable…unless of course your wife buys the wrong brand of coffee. In that case you need to bend her over your knee and whack her good!

Which ad is your favorite?

I’m noticing a common theme here, and that common theme is pure awesomeness.

    *rolls eyes*

I wonder what kind of market research they had to conduct to figure out that women have brains.

    My thoughts:

While you’re down there you want to do my toes?

OJ: double or triple my indigestion

Lysol? Three words: Burn baby burn!

Blow smoke in my face? How fast can you say “punch in throat?”

Coffee: you touch me and you won’t be moving for awhile bub.

Still trying to figure if our ads today are any better though.

Of course I’m lovin the Coffee ad……but can I add – simply buying “Store-bought” coffee is still not acceptable around here.

No OTC – only through our Dealers!

Thank you Brad for continuing my education as a person and as a husband. I am sure my marriage will thrive with these new practices! I can’t wait to try them. :)

I do love the cigarette ad, it reads at the end “Oh yes…you get smoking satisfaction without inhaling smoke” yet the ad tells you to blow the smoke in someone else’s face! I guess so they can inhale the smoke instead of the person smoking, Ha! :)

P.S. With the look on the lady’s face in the coffee ad, I would guess she buys store brand coffee on purpose because she enjoys that spanking just a little too much. That’s why Chase & Sanborn no longer make coffee, they make adult bondage toys.

When I do a presentation on marketing to women, one of the crowd favorites is the section on the history of ads, which include so many of these it makes your head spin. Isn’t it amazing the ways society shifts over the years… thank God! :-)

The TV show “Mad Men,” which deals with the advertising in the 50s/60s has an interesting picture of women in the corporate workplace.

There is a very large wake up call here.
Unfortunately a whole lot of males believe that this is still how to treat women!
And believe it or not women do not like to be treated so.

Oh boy I wish life was like that, get away with blowing smoke in your ladies face. Oh wait, did that once with pot and blowing other martial towards her face quite regularly, and she loves it too.

Then their was the kinky coffee spank, well done that and doing it again tomorrow.

Lysol douche sounds economical, and worth a try, men to could benefit from this method as well. Love Lysol already as a toilet cleaner, why not the source. Just dilute it 5 parts water to 1 part Lysol. I buy too many uncomfortable shoes for my wife already, maybe you’ve seen these types with the crazy heels.

The orange juice people did really good with this ad, I love the ladies hand, take a close look and see how good an abstract artist this person really was.

Now honey come here, I hope that coffee was store tested, No!!! ;)
