A Prayer For Justice

A Prayer For Justice

My friend Curtis had an awesome idea on his blog. He asked the question,

What if we wrote a prayer for justice together?
If you could pray (big) for justice, what would you pray?

This was my prayer.

“O LORD, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from an honest heart.” (Ps 17:1)

Lord, I know that your ears are open to the cries of the needy and destitute. You see the hurt and suffering in this world that you have created and I know it breaks your heart. Let my heart be broken by the things that break yours.

Use my hands to extend help and love to those who need it. Use my money to help end suffering and demonstrate your love.

Let me show love to the least of these even as you did when you walked the earth.

Help me to stand up, speak out and do something about the injustices in the world that I can be a part of helping. Open my eyes to the injustices I don’t even know about yet.

Use me to bring your kingdom from Heaven to earth every day through my words and actions.

For yours alone is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever.

Amen.

Your turn. Take a minute or two and head over to Curtis’ blog to add your prayer for justice.

“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.” (James 5:16)

    Good thoughts, Brotha!

As Rumi said, Be the change you wish to see in the world. But I know, for me, that would be impossible without God’s grace.

I’ll have to craft my own prayer for justice…

Thanks for the shout out Brad…I think this can be a really cool collaborative thing, for lack of a better word.

How cool would it be to all be praying the same *big* prayer for justice?

    Answer: Very.
