What Are Your Summer Projects?

What Are Your Summer Projects?

Friday is the first day of Spring but we’ve already gotten a head start here at the Ruggles house with a trip to Lowes to check out all the fun, green bloomy stuff. Since we’re in an upstairs condo we won’t be able to do the elaborate landscaping projects we’ve done in the past (I still shed a tear over the rose bushes I left behind). We decided to make the best of it and make our little 10×10 terrace as beautiful as we can.

We started out with a great pre-season deal on a patio set so we can finally sit outside in the evenings and enjoy the beautiful weather. Over the weekend we picked up a couple indoor starter kits and some seeds so we can get a bunch of flowers and plants ready to plant in the flowerboxes I’ll be installing on our terrace. The kids had fun planting their seeds and are excited about their own flowers coming up in the Spring.

The last thing on my outdoor list for the summer is finally replacing my grill which has served me well for 8 years. I’ve got my eye on this nifty little patio-sized grill at Lowes. Grilling is an almost spiritual activity around here. I can’t think of anything that wouldn’t taste better on a grill. I think I’d grill my eggs and bacon out there in the mornings if I could.

So what about you? What’s on your list of Spring/Summer projects?

Does “survive the hot weather, mostly by staying out of it as much as possible” count as a summer project? Because that’s definitely #1 on my list!

In our house we get excited about February-ish for Spring. We already got a head start on the herbs for cooking and this year I’m going to try really really hard NOT to kill the garden I have envisioned. (As I have in years past :) ) I have even started a very very small compost of coffee grounds (since we drink so much) – Maybe that will make up for the lack of my green thumb!

@sTim – Sure, why not. Good luck on your summer project. :-)

@Abby – This is the first year we’ve planted a few herbs in a plant box for cooking. I think we have Thyme, Oregano and Basil. By the way, speaking of coffee grounds, do any of your local Starbucks have bags of free used grounds? I know some of ours here do.

How I wish we had a yard. I am a huge landscaper/garden guy. I enjoy all the stuff incorporated with anything out doors.

But I guess I will have to deal with living out all my landscaping dreams over at my in-laws house.

April and I are doing the opposite as Tim… we’re gonna go to a really hot place…

This summer, we plan to (hopefully) be settling into our new place in Bangkok, Maybe eating lotsa fresh fruit, learning Thai, and celebrating the unknown.

Speaking of grills… ever watch “Boy meets Grill” with Bobby Flay, on Food Network? Methinks you’d get a kick out of it.

Well, as far as Spring goes, my parents are getting a new roof/gutters.
My spring/summer project is sculpting both my body and my resume. I want to get in shape during the spring by picking up an aerobics video, maybe hitting the exercise bike. Then in the summer, I’d like to enroll in some type of martial arts program. As far as my resume goes, I’ll be volunteering at either the local ASPCA or an animal clinic this summer. There are other places I’d like to volunteer, as well. =)

We moved into our house back in Dec and have to make a lot of renovations. So I’m taking this week off to try and get everything done. Here is my to do list for this week.

    - turn half wall into full wall in master bedroom (frame, drywall, and mud)
    - tear down fake brick chimney
    - paint living room
    - paint bedroom
    - finish paint cabinets
    - finish painting guest bath
    - install bucket lights in kitchen

Shannon and I are trying to get this all done by Wednesday, because we head out on Thursday for our 5 year anniversary. Pray for us.

Well, Brad, if you’re longing for some landscaping work, I’ve got a nice big project just waiting for an open weekend… you’re more than welcome to come help out! I’ve got so much old landscaping to tear out and re-do, ugh, it makes my head spin. The upside is that I, too, am buying a new grill! I’ve got my eye on one at Menard’s (anybody else think that store name is just HILARIOUS?!), I’ll probably get a side-burner on mine. If you did that, y’know, you really could cook your eggs out there in the morning! ;-)

I don’t know if this counts as a summer project but we need to tear down the old wall paper up stares and then paint the upstairs…I am so looking forward to that….yeah right… Then we need do powner wash and paint the wood on the outside of our house and garage door. Thank God that isn’t a lot… Did I mention that our roof is leaking in one spot in our family room that we have to fix….

Husband just tore up our kitchen, I’d like to get that done and paint all the rooms upstairs. A big project for the summer is to have more fun with the kids and hang out more at the beach!
