My Blogging Idenity Crisis

My Blogging Idenity Crisis

POSTED IN: Authenticity, Blog Posts

Those of you who have been blogging for a while will know this feeling. It’s the feeling you get when you wake up in the morning and look through your blog drafts folder while muttering…crap…boring…overused…not remotely interesting…cheesy.

It’s the realization that somewhere along the way that witty, creative, unique blog you set out to write has become a fairly ordinary tabloid magazine with you as the author, reviewer and editor-in-chief. Nothing more than words and images formatted and published to fill a quota.

Sometimes it feels like the engine has died and I’m sitting on the side of the expressway listening to the sound of cars speeding by, feeling my car rock back and forth with the turbulence of the vehicles closing in on their destination. But where the heck is my destination? And why the heck am stalled on the side of the road?

Don’t read too much into this. This isn’t one of those, “I’m depressed and I don’t know what to do with my life” kind of posts nor am I writing this to get any kind of pity points. I’m simply owning up to the fact that this blog has gotten a little stale for me. I have no intention of quitting but I also am not content to simply keep digging the rut deeper.

I’ve written over 500 posts that have generated 5,000+ comments. Over 525 of you receive my posts every day in your RSS reader or inbox and that humbles me. We’ve had some great discussion about a host of topics. We’ve thought, given, debated, learned, laughed and cried.

I have some pretty high expectations of myself and this blog. I’m not sure what my next steps are but I’m committed to figure this out and kick it up a notch. There is so much untapped potential in this blog and I know that right now I’m only scratching the surface of what we can accomplish.

Your prayers, patience and advice are appreciated.

Will be praying for you Brad. Glad that you are willing to slow down to figure out where to go with the blog rather than just put out fluff for us.

It seems inevitable that everyone who blogs will eventually write a post like this one. I guess I don’t have a whole lot of investment in my blog, from me or my readers. You, on the other hand, have an audience.

And we, your audience, demand perfection!

    Just kidding.

I’m the kind of guy that enjoys a HUGE variety of blog styles. I love people who just diary through their day on their blog, and I love people who blog about the top story on digg.com every day. I’m pretty easy to please.

I like your posts, whether you’re writing about Tampax or President Obama.

p.s. Kerry Snyder is an awesome guy.

Isn’t it funny when your in a rut and you feel like you are the only one??

I think its just that point in our lives where we are consumed by our every day habits. Our hobbies or goals get pushed aside. I totally understand where you are coming from. And i agree with BJ.

We love you both so much… seeing each other sooner or later :)

I love my family more than anything but I still struggle to keep my passions and priorities in order. I’m passionate about the Church, its influence on culture, and making it better. I’m constantly challenging the process - examining what I do, why I do it and its relevance in today’s progressive culture. read more
