My Brother Is Leaving For Thailand

My Brother Is Leaving For Thailand

This past weekend we drove up to Fort Wayne to participate in the Missions Weekend. My brother Jason and his wife April were commissioned on Sunday to be sent out as missionaries to Thailand.

My brother has always been the adventurous, world-traveler type but it’s still hard to believe that he’ll be leaving for an entire year!

Thailand is a beautiful country but one desperately in need of the gospel. 92% of the population are Buddhist so Christianity hasn’t made many inroads into the culture yet. Even more disturbing is the underlying darkness of the sex trade that is rampant in Thailand. 14% of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of Thailand comes from the sex industry. The number of child prostitutes rises by almost 20% each year. This country, as beautiful as it may look on the outside, is hurting and broken on the inside.

While they are there, my sister-in-law April will be teaching English in the schools while Jason will be helping the Foursquare World Missions base in Bangkok with media, graphics and web design. Jason will be helping to connect current missionaries and teams in Thailand with their family, friends and churches back home through video and blogs.

Jason & April are exciting because they represent a new generation of missionaries that are finding new and unique ways to spread the gospel around the world. Using the tools that they have (teaching English, graphic design, video production) they’re able to connect the work that is going on half-way around the world with those of us back home.

Please pray for Jason & April as they leave for Thailand this week. You can read more and follow their journey on their web site – JasonRuggles.com.

I’ll miss you guys. You’ll be in our prayers.

I sponsored a girl in Thailand with Compassion when I heard about the commercial sex trade. Now, 15 years later, she’s a member of the Leadership Development Program and is in University studies for Bio Technology. Is that cool or what? God is good.

What an amazing thing they are doing and please pass along my best wishes to them.
I will have to add them to my roll to watch what is happening while they are in Thailand.

I love my family more than anything but I still struggle to keep my passions and priorities in order. I’m passionate about the Church, its influence on culture, and making it better. I’m constantly challenging the process - examining what I do, why I do it and its relevance in today’s progressive culture. read more
