Get Up…Again
POSTED IN: Authenticity, Blog Posts
I’ve been fighting a battle with some health issues recently that have totally kicked my butt. More frustrating than the health issues are the short reprieves where I think I’ve finally turned the corner only to suffer yet another setback. These ups and downs can really mess with you if you let them.
I think it was Winston Churchill who said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
In the face of repeated setbacks and obstacles we come face to face with our will to continue. Like a boxer in the 8th round, we look up at our opponent after being knocked to the mat again. It’s so tempting to just stay down for the count. Instead we pull ourselves up on shaky legs and keep…on…fighting.
Whatever past successes we may have had are insignificant in the face of our current challenges. We cannot rest on those laurels.
We’re tempted to accept the finality of each new defeat and yet there is something within us that tells us to keep fighting.
“I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.” (Philippians 3:13-14)
After each new defeat or setback we just have to keep…getting…up.

LOUD.

Oh my gosh Brad, if anyone knows about health setbacks it’s me!!! Here’s my firm belief though: God’s still able to heal and perform miracles. After all, He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever, right? If He was healing people all through the stories of the Bible, He can do the same in us today.
Call me if you need someone to talk to!

Very encouraging…last night at my bible study, the single thing that stood out to me the most was that no one thing, success or failure, defines a life. It is SO HARD to let both go and find courage to face new things head on.
Great post, neighbor! Even if you guys have taken to locking me out of your house…:)

I hope the health issues are nothing too serious, and that the worst is behind you.
