My Journey To The Grave

My Journey To The Grave

POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Leadership, Makes You Think

I’m particularly fired up today after a great coffee with a friend of mine. If you don’t have a person or group of people you can meet with that make you want to jump up and change the world, FIND ONE. Preferably more than one. God created us to live in community and sharpen each other.

As I sit here at Starbucks with so many thoughts going through my head I’m reminded afresh of the life that God has called us to live. We were never meant to be safe, comfortable or even secure in this life. The kingdom of heaven is promised to those who violently lay hold of all God has called them to do.

I’ve adapted this quote that I feel best defines my philosophy for living life.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely and comfortable in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly spent, having exerted every last ounce of energy and leaving a mark on this world that people will talk about for years.

Will you join me in praying that God gives us opportunities to violently spend ourselves for the things that matter in the economy of His kingdom? Pray that our lives are marked, not with comfort and security, but with the holy discomfort and brokenness that God feels when He looks at a world full of those in need.

I want my journey to the grave to be a wild one.

Thanks B-rad. I’ve had that “a person or group of people you can meet with that make you want to jump up and change the world” in the past. We no longer live close.

I need to find that person again.

Man, I am right there! BJ and I just watched “yes, Man” and although it didn’t get great ratings, I want to be like that. Saying “YES” to whatever is in front of me!!! I tend to hesitate any more. Being cautious like a grown-up! But like Allison in the movie said, “When we were kids the world was our playground, why does it have to change just because we’re older”… or something like that. I am there with you Brad!!! Ready to shake ‘n’ bake this world!!!! LOL

PS. Love the quote… so true

I love that quote, and yes, I am joining you in that prayer. I enjoyed our talk as well and left a little more fired up myself. Thanks for the convo and being one of those people for me here in Indy. Look forward to more of this.

I love my family more than anything but I still struggle to keep my passions and priorities in order. I’m passionate about the Church, its influence on culture, and making it better. I’m constantly challenging the process - examining what I do, why I do it and its relevance in today’s progressive culture. read more
