Don’t Poop In The Pool
POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Randomness
Yesterday I took the girls to our association pool for some afternoon fun in the sun. They splashed and dunked. I read and burned. All was well until the whistle blew followed by the announcement, “The Pool is closed for the rest of the day.”
The rest of the day? Why? The culprit turned out to be the one thing that could clear a pool quicker than anything: a floatie .
Parents were dragging their kids out of that water quicker than if a shark had been sighted. It reminded me of the scene from Caddyshack? The child responsible for closing the pool down wasn’t located, which is probably a good thing. Things could have gotten ugly pretty quick.
Two important lessons to remember:
1. “Diapers” and “Swim Diapers” are not the same thing. There is a reason that they make special diapers just for swimming (I personally am in favor of supplementing swim diapers with half a roll of duct tape just to be sure)
2. Chlorine is our friend. Don’t be stingy with it. I want the water I swim in to be so chemically enhanced that microbes count their lifespan in the milliseconds.
Lord knows that summers hold enough dangers as it is between BBQ grill explosings, poison ivy, and sunburns. Dodging doodies in the pool shouldn’t have to be one of them.
Wishing you a fun, chlorine-filled and crap-free summer.

Seriously, did you need the pic. I already struggle with getting in a public swimming pool. This incident may have pushed me over the edge.

I got a nice laugh when you tweeted about this. I was hoping for a follow-up and you didn’t disappoint.
As for the picture – I was hoping that the one inside the post would be the header…that or a shot with the Bill Murray “snacking” after cleaning!

It took a minute after yesterday’s tweet for it to register! Too far removed from going to the pool, I guess. People move pretty quickly when any kind of floater “poops” up! Glad they didn’t get a DNA sample from peeps as they left!

hahahaha.. oh my gosh.. that is too hysterical.
thanksfully I have never experienced a floatie becasue I think that may just limit my time hanging out in the pool.
“Chlorine is our friend…” yes.. yes it is.

Don’t lie Brad, I know you threw a candy bar in the pool.
Anyways, we talk about how much our pools HAVE to be clean and chlorinated (which I like). But we don’t give second thoughts to what’s in the ocean water or lake water. Ha ha!
Sorry to hear that your pool trip got cut short.

It’s fun to take a tootsie roll and drop it in the pool and sit back and watch the fun, or a chocolate nut roll even gets a better reaction……

Ha ha! You’ve just reminded me of
1. Leith Waterworld – the day we were wading round the circular river rapid thing…and there was a floater.
2. Ryan McFarlane – when the Summer Playscheme took us swimming and we all got out we discovered that Ryan had pooed in the pool and they had to try and fish said poo out. Of course we all stood at the side and watched.

The pic is disgusting! But have to say it really drives the point home.
