Calling All Creatives

Calling All Creatives

POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Creativity

You’ve gotta love creatives. They talk about things like kerning and swoon over beautiful fonts. They can have tattoos, doodle on everything, have refined tea tastes and listen to everything from Sinatra to The White Stripes…because they can. They work to make everything we see beautiful without needing thanks from anyone. And if you are a creative, you know that the last half of the previous sentence is totally untrue.

An Exciting New Project

By now I’ve been able to connect with most of my readers who have been attracted to my blog because of our shared interest in design but I know there are some of you I haven’t met yet. And I need to know who all of you are because there’s an exciting new project I’m working on (shhhh!) that you’ll want to know about, especially if your creative work involves design for church as a paid position or volunteer.

So, if you’re a creative working in the area of print, web, video production or set design leave me a comment below letting me know who you are and what church (if any) you serve at. And if you happen to call yourself fortunate enough to have a friend who is a creative, first go buy them a latte, then tell them to head over here and get in touch with me. They’ll thank you later (and not just for the latte).

So I’m calling you out creatives. Let me know who you are and what you do. Just for the Helvetica of it.

My name is Gregg (Brad we’ve talked online before) and I am the Volunteer Creative Director at Conference Baptist Church where I do all things media (video, graphic design, motion graphics, etc) and am now moving into the exciting world of starting a church plant with a pastor in Aurora, Colorado.

Fonts are a passion on mine… I love taking fonts into illustrator and tweaking them and making them my own. I am actually working on developing my own font in my spare time (which lately hasn’t been much with a full time job in design & photography and volunteer work for the church) but I hope to one day have my own font out there!

I am VERY interested in hearing about this project.

If I get paid for it, does it make me a pro? I sure hope not, because I’d be embarrassed to claim that title yet. I’m a web design student that is on staff at our church (www.falconridgefellowship.com) for all the media stuff including web and weekend services, and admin and coordinating children’s ministry. I like fonts, but I *love* beautiful, well designed websites. (Of which our church site is not yet one, but is going to be when I emerge from my learning curve with Drupal.)

I am the Visual Arts Coordinator which is a fancy way of saying that I create stage designs, print work, and other random design jobs around the church. I sometimes find myself wishing that an actual physical object on the stage had transform controls so that I could just move it & resize ;-) . And if Apple made a car, I would probably buy it… I love to use my creativity to influence our community for Jesus…
