New Artist You Should Know: Diane Birch
POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Music
I’m super stoked to share with you my current musical infatuation: Diane Birch, a young singer-songwriter from New York whose diverse background as a PK (pastor’s kid) including living in Zimbabwe with her South African-born parents. Her dad was a conservative pastor who moved his family from continent to continent. So the young Birch migrated with her folks from Zimbabwe to South Africa to Australia, following her father’s mission (read her full bio here).
Rewind:
I first stumbled across Diane Birch (Twitter) after downloading her free iTunes Single of the Week (thank God there are still people with great taste picking iTunes weekly downloads). After listening to Birch’s unique 60s/70s soul vibe I immediately downloaded her entire album (only $7.99 on Amazon MP3) and have been hooked ever since.
Choo Choo
The piano-playing preacher’s daughter has a shameless love for Sixties and Seventies soul and singer-songwriter pop that is refreshingly unique. Although Bible Belt is her first album, she already has the sound and songwriting style of a seasoned veteran. The smooth sound of old Wurlitzers, jazzy bass lines and that 70s AM radio gold voice lends itself well to songs like songs like Fools and Nothing But A Miracle.
Nothing But A Miracle
There are few artists whose songwriting style and voice capture me so completely. Bible Belt has gotten a decent amount of airtime in my iTunes playlist for the last several weeks and I’m only growing to love it more. If this is Birch’s debut effort, I can’t wait to see where she goes from here.

NOTE TO INDY READERS: Diane Birch will be in concert at Radio Radio in downtown Indy tomorrow night at 9 PM. Tickets for the concert are only $8. I’m going to be there for sure so let me know if I should look for you there.
