Google Map Your Heart

Most of us know the story of Jacob’s Ladder. Jacob was camping out after leaving Beersheba and one night had a dream under the stars that angels were ascending and descending from heaven. He awoke and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it. What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God – the gateway to heaven!” (Gen. 28:16-18)

Of course we know that God is everywhere but there are definitely some places where we’ve had amazing encounters with Him or have felt His presence in an amazing way.

Find the location on Google Maps where your heart has felt closest to God. Then paste the link (instructions) from the top right corner in a comment below and tell us why you chose this spot. Submit as many as you like.

I’ll be adding the map links and stories to an interactive map as they come in. Leave a comment below to Google Map your heart. (ht for this post idea: SoulPancake)

    Skid Row – LA

The first time I visited Skid Row with the LA Dream Center I encountered God in a powerful way. In the simple act of serving the needy people that lived on those streets I was able to serve God. I touched the dirty hands of Jesus when I prayed with the smelly, poorly-dressed street musician. I felt Christ’s love when I hugged the bag lady who hadn’t seen her kids in 20 years.

Creation is glorious- if there was ever any doubt that there is a God who created the earth, there shouldn’t be after going to Nanyuki.

Gorgeous place! Here I was commissioned to take the Gospel to a closed, 3rd-world country.

We had left the rural villages and people on the outskirts of Malawi behind to enjoy a day break at a beach resort on Lake Malawi. As we were driving through the hills and countryside, past small villages and clusters of slums, God completely shattered me. The combination of songs that played through my headphones, moved me to a point of broken surrender, trust, reliance, and worship before God. The set started with “Speak to me Gently” moved through some more songs but wrapped up with Delerious’ “Our God Reigns”. As we passed the villages, it was as if I felt their needs and lifted them to God, and as I saw people I felt like each one made personal eye contact with me and I was broken for them but hopefully presenting them to Him. SO powerful, so broken, so held close.

It was my last night in Australia, and God had taught me so much while I was there. I’d had a difficult 8 months previous to going, and was about to embark on something unknown when I returned to Scotland. Somehow when I arrived in Sydney I just felt like I was home. I can’t explain it. He was with me so much during those 4 weeks of travelling, and I had such deep peace, so many intimate conversations, and have never believed more strongly of His strength in my weakness.

This is where my life was recommitted to God after a long time away. I ended up having to go to jail for a bit because I had to come clean with some illegal stuff I had gotten involved in but He took care of it all and 15 years later life is great!

I rediscovered Jesus through the ministry of Southside Fellowship after coming out of 26 years of legalism in Christian Fundamentalism.

I still remember my first Sunday there where I wept at the realization that this was apparently where God wanted me to begin healing.

I’m now states away from this place and I miss it so. They will always have a special place in my heart because they so sweetly, gently, welcomed me with grace and let me heal and ask hard questions.

I first experienced the love and power of God at my home church, Gate Church International, on 03 Feb 2008 and haven’t looked back since! God touched me in a powerful way and set me free from darkness and sin. Since then I have become more and more determined to authentically, genuinely and passionately live for Christ every day of my life! I experience the love of God through the wonderful people of the Gate every time I’m with them and nowhere feels more like home and family.

Recently I have just been praying like 90 asking him to reveal his plan, blessings and a turn around at work, ministry, marriage, baby, etc…. On my way home from work just worshipping in the car he has just settled on me with such a thick annointing on multiple occasions it has been awesome and a reminder that he is here and in control….silly how we as Christians forget that sometimes when we are in the middle of a storm…you reign JESUS…

Like Anne, I too have fond memories of Lake Victoria, but from the other side in Mwanza, Tanzania.

But for me, a weekend in Merom, Indiana changed my life. To hear God so clearly concerning the direction for my life sent so many other things into motion.

God answered prayers and parted what had been days of clouds (and even rain) at this hidden treasure on the globe. I stood there with my pastor and some friends and just felt enveloped by the presence and pleasure of God. Having grown up in a legalistic pastor’s family, I felt ambushed by a personal love. A cloud to cover the most ardent hike of my life, a sun to burn it away just in time for blue skies and an unobstructed absorption of Fitz Roy, the three towers, glacial waterfalls and valleys, and alpine wilderness in its rugged beauty.

When I first went to Israel, it was like I was at home. I experienced God in a wonderful, mighty way. This was Christ’s earthly home, and He had walked these streets and spoken such powerful words over these waters. The way I read the Word has changed, and I miss that place when I am not there. I am about to go for the third time in less than a month, and I could not be more ready. But when I return from Israel, I will be preparing to go to Uganda. THAT, I KNOW, will be a place where I feel the heartbeat of God.
