Holy Crap!
POSTED IN: Blog Posts
I’m a web designer by trade and I’ve been fortunate enough to land some pretty amazing projects recently. My exposure in the blogging community has led to a workload that is fun and sometimes a little crazy. The increased demand for my services has meant that I don’t have the time for the smaller projects I used to be able to do. That has placed me out of the price range of a lot of people looking for a small, simple web site design.
Earlier this week a couple of ladies emailed me who are starting a ministry and wanted me to design a Wordpress-powered site for them. I emailed them back with the next available opening in my schedule and the price range that my projects typically fall within. Within minutes of sending the email to them I received an email back that had only two words:
Holy Crap!
My price range was obviously way higher than they had expected. I later found out that the email I received was intended to be sent to the other partner instead of me. We had a good laugh about it. I told them that it was refreshing to get a “Holy Crap!” email once in a while since I knew a lot of people think it but don’t say it.
Then I started to think about where God has brought me. 18 months ago we sold our home in Fort Wayne, drove 2,300 miles to end up in Indianapolis where our house fell through and we lived out of a hotel for 3 months. There were plenty of times I felt sorry for myself and wondered why life had to be so hard. And yet through it all God remained faithful.
There were times during the last year-and-a-half where I thought I was going to have to stand out on a street-corner holding a sign that said “Will Design For Food” and now I have more work than I can handle?
Holy Crap!
I don’t deserve the blessings that God has given me and yet he gives them anyway. There are times in our life where we stop and look back at where we’ve been and where we are now. In those times I think that Holy Crap, although theologically questionable, is quite fitting nonetheless.
Take a moment and share your Holy Crap reflection about where you are and where you’ve been.

youve come a long way in 18 months – thats fantastic!
well, my holy crap moment happens every day. you know my story, brad. coming from an abusive childhood, having 2 abortions, getting married at 19 only to have my husband take his own life 8 days later….to ending up where i am now – married to the best man alive, i have 2 beautiful children, a family who loves and serves the Lord together, friends who inspire, encourage and kick my butt (in love) on a daily basis…yah – Holy Crap is quite fitting for me as well.
and to be honest, ive seen some mighty “set apart” crap before – i think holy crap applies at times.

Grace is something I don’t think I will ever fully comprehend during my life here on earth, but I know full well that I grow more and more dependent upon it every day. The Lord is forever faithful and gracious. So, holy crap, indeed.

Holy Crap, indeed, Brad! It’s great to hear that you’re doing so well.
My holy crap? A little over 5 years ago, I was unemployed, had just moved to a new place, was about to be married, and I was living with my future father-in-law, with NO IDEA what God had in store for me. Now, I have a beautiful home, 2 kids, and I work at an amazing church that’s doing crazy things to affect the Kingdom of God. “Holy crap” just isn’t enough sometimes, y’know?!?!

I was wondering if we’d hear the back story on the “holy crap” email, we saw as a tweet.
Hilarious.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing as Evan. For me, the phrase has replaced the overused word “awesome”. It has a little more dramatic flair, imho.
And thank God for “holy crap” moments!

I used to worry about supporting my wife on a “missionary’s salary,” like if we would have to just eat rice for the rest of our lives.
Now two years later, we struggle with whether or not we’re giving AWAY enough money. Holy crap, indeed.

i’m pretty sure i sent you a “holy crap” email way back when, too.
you’ve come a long way. love watching you walk in the favor of God.
my biggest holy crap of late is seeing what God is doing with my pain and heartache. He is making life out of my brokenness and all i can say is “holy crap!”

This might be my favorite post of yours!
Well, my Holy Crap moment came about 9 years ago. I had a great job, but my wife and I had a TON of debt. One day, my company decided to let go of 2/3rds of the sales force which I was apart of. LUCKILY I escaped the layoffs and had a Holy Crap moment. At that moment Dave Ramsey became my new best friend.
We got wired about FPU and paid off an insane amount of debts. Just after becoming debt free, about 3 months, I got bought out of my company. That Holy Crap moment instead became a Yea Hoo moment that has now led me to a wonderful career and a lifestyle that is much less stressful.
I cannot imagine what would have happened if I would have been fired that one day, not looked to Ramsey for great lessons, changed my direction and well everything else that followed…
A story and blog post I must write one day.

Would it be ok to say that my “Holy crap!” moment is yet to come? We are blessed way more than we deserve to be, but there’s still room for some more. I mean blessings… not cr… well, you got it. :0)

I read your blog alot but I’m not a comment leaver for the most part but I will say that I created my own “Holy Crap!”moment last month … I quit my 9-5 Design job to go 100% freelance … so the “Holy Crap!” came from Chelan’s mouth when I told her. It’s so much more liberating to live by faith huh? Great quote, “Fear is faith in the wrong kingdom!”

A few years back my wife and I heard God call us to Vancouver BC for me to live out a dream of running a youth center. In order to do this we needed to sell our house, quit my job, find an apartment, and raise $30,000 dollars, and we only had 5 months to do it.
We had someone knock on our door and ask if we were interested in selling our place, which was not even on the market yet. We said yes, and gave our price. She left and told us she would get back to us. She did, 45 min. later and our house was sold for $1500 more than we asked. That was just the start of the HOLY CRAP adventure, and the rest all fell into place within three months. It was a great ride.

LOVE this post! I have a moment several times a week where I step and think “WOW! What an amazing God we serve.” I love that I can look back and laugh at all of the holy crap moments I’ve had. In all honesty, I think my whole life is a holy crap moment when I look at the person I am on my own and what God accomplishes through me everyday.
