Open Mouth, Insert Foot
POSTED IN: Authenticity, Blog Posts
I just saw this piece on CNN.com about verbal blunders that was hilarious (in a cringe-worthy kind of way). I can’t even decide which one was the worst…Oprah trying to wipe off Drew Brees’ birthmark?
I laugh, but I can totally relate because I’ve said my fair share of stupid stuff. I’ve just been fortunate enough not to have them captured on video (my blog-buddy Blake Bergstrom wasn’t so lucky).

I can’t remember off the top of my head the last stupid thing I said, but I’ve said a lot!
The Bush clip was pretty bad, he came across as Harsh.

Holy crap…those were funnier than I expected. It’s either between the Biden’s ash mark or his asking a senator in a wheelchair to stand. It was pretty funny how hes said, “ohhhp,” after realizing his mistake.

Picture this:
I’m introduced to a crowd of 500 Realtors as the company’s new Marketing Director. I decide to loosen up the crowd with a joke saying there is no truth to the rumor that I’m introducing a new ad campaign centered around sock puppets.
*ginormous crickets*
I have a lingering toe taste over that one.

Biden and the wheelchair is my favorite. “God love ya!”
i can’t remember my last huge screw-up, but over the last few years at church i’ve asked someone “so is this your first time here?” only to find out they’ve been coming for over a year. oops. i think (i hope) i’ve learned my lesson on that one.

Bryan – Yup, the classic newbie pastor mistake. After a few similar blunders I learned to ask “So how long have you been coming here?” instead.

I saw the Oprah show with Drew Brees. It was funny. Even though I didn’t know it was a birth mark after she wiped it I thought “hum, it didn’t come off. I think she just made a mistake…”
And I agree, the Bush clip came off as Harsh. I couldn’t laugh at that one.

I love the reporter’s comeback to Bush.
Bush (to the legally blind reporter): “For the viewers, there’s no sun.”
Reporter: “I guess that depends on your perspective.”
LOL! Bush actually thought the guys was being disrespectful. Ridiculous!!!

Those were hilarious! I feel for all those guys, but I still reserve the right to laugh!
And defending Bush a bit… he got beat up by those guys all the time. But lets not bring politics into this… lets just laugh!

Oh man….when you talk in front of people for a living it happens alot, doesn’t it?
Once, I was talking to students about tissue donation. I was supposed to say “bone donor”….but switched up the first letters of those two words…in front of a group of high schoolers! Whoops. Let’s just say I changed my phrasing of that term after that.
Also, I was dividing some elementary students to play a game and said, “ok, since this half is all boys…” to which a little girl with VERY short hair said “HEY! *I’m* a GIRL!” Oops.
