My Passport Scare
POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Kenya Trip
I had an epic panic attack this morning.
I’ve been working on getting everything I needed for my Compassion Bloggers trip that I leave for on Tuesday. Compassion handles the travel arrangements and Visa processing so I sent my Passport to them so they could obtain my Kenya Visa.
I received the package containing my trip book, itinerary and airline tickets on Tuesday but there was no Passport or Visa inside. I figured it was just a day or two behind and would be arriving separate.
This morning I shot a quick email to Patricia (who is one of our trip leaders) asking her if she had any idea when I could expect my passport. She called me and told me that it should have been in the package I received on Tuesday and suggested I check the box it arrived in again.
My heart sank.
I had thrown the box out in the garbage the day before and the garbage had been picked up this morning. If my passport was in that box it was riding away in the back of a garbage truck somewhere.
I started to second-guess myself. I did check that package when it arrived, didn’t I? Could I have overlooked the passport somehow?
My panic attack lasted until I received another phone call from Patricia letting me know that my passport and visa were located and were in fact still in transit.
*HUGE sigh of relief*
So, I still don’t have my passport and visa back yet but at least I know that they’re not sitting in some landfill somewhere.
With any luck I may still be getting on that plane next Tuesday after all.

Let’s just say that Patricia had a little panic of her own about it this morning. Since she had almost thrown hers away when it arrived, she was SURE you had thrown yours away. Glad it all worked out.

She wasn’t the only one who thought I had thrown it away! I felt sick after I got off the phone with her because I just didn’t know. It was such a relief when she called back to tell me it had been located.

From someone who travels for a living, that is the worst feeling…next to losing your passport in a foreign country.
Great luck on your trip Brad!

I think the devil loves this sort of thing. Fear, doubt and worry all centered around an amazing trip that is going to do so much good for kids. Glad the fear, doubt and worry were squashed quickly!

Same story. I got our trip books via FedEx and there was no passports with them. I promptly pooped my pants.
They arrived in a separate envelope from FedEx the next day. The delivery guy thought it was a good idea to put them on the trunk of a car (that wasn’t even my car) and thankfully the owner of the car found them before driving away.

Dude, what is it with passports and this trip? We better glue them to our butts when we leave. On second thought, that could make customs very awkward…

I, during spring cleaning, I actually threw away EVERY document I needed to renew my work visa 5 days before my meeting with the government.
They rejected me and I had to re-apply 3 months later.
Hope your story ends well.

My mom forgot her drivers license the last time she came to visit Nashville and they still let her on the plane! I think being short and innocent looking helps….being a grade school teacher sealed the deal! Lol.
