Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Childhood Memories, Family

Over the Easter weekend we traveled to Michigan to spend time with Lisa’s and my parents. While the drive there may not have been the most enjoyable (another story for another post), the girls always enjoy going to Michigan because they get to spend some time with their adorable little cousin. That would be this little cutie-pie here:

One of the traditions that the girls have when they go to Grandma’s is taking a bath in Grandma’s big jacuzzi tub. This time we decided to pamper them just a little. Lisa bought a face mask for them to put on and sliced up cucumbers for their eyes (or, as Emily calls them, “pickles”).

Being a kid is pretty stressful. Sometimes you just need to kick back and unwind…

…although it does take a little practice to master the art of proper pickle placement…

And of course, what would bath time be if we didn’t finish off with some bubbles?

What kind of traditions did you have when you visited Grandma and Grandpa’s as a kid?

That’s great! I actually just wrote a post about going to visit my grandparents in Michigan during the summer. They had a place on Otsego Lake and some of my most favorite memories are spending time on the boats and playing in the lake.

I love the pictures. Nice job there.

I have three sets of grandparents, so here’s three things traditions:

    1. The claw, which involves a coffee can filled with my grandpa’s change, and my brothers and I getting a chance to grab one handful of it. Don’t laugh – it adds up like crazy.

    2. The Salvation Army, which involves me sitting in the car with someone (perhaps my dad) while my mom and grandma went “shopping.”

    3. Eating, which involves… well, you get the picture. My other grandma wouldn’t let you leave without eating at least three plate of something… even if we’d just eaten before coming over.

    Wow, I love memories.

Becky – Love spending time on the lake in the boat. Great memories.

bond – Ha ha, those are awesome memories. I especially love the one about “the claw.” What a great idea. I could see how you would really look forward to that as a kid.

My grandmother would let me pick, string and break green beans with her. I can still remember the sounds of the beans hitting the stainless steel bowls.

She also would put together HUGE puzzles while listening to Frank Sinatra. I’ve only come to appreciate that as I’ve gotten older….it was pretty lame to me as a kid. :)
