So as of yesterday I am officially now a Soccer Dad. We took Emily to her very first soccer practice. She looked too cute in her little pink jersey, socks, new cleats and sparkly pink soccer ball – she may be playing soccer but she’s still all girl. (click the pics below to view them full-size)

Even though it was just a practice this week we quickly realized that Emily has a competitive side. During their little skirmish the other “team” scored more goals than theirs did for which she was pretty bummed.

Several people on Facebook said the next logical step is a minivan. We’ve already been down that road and, while I won’t say we will never have one again, I don’t see a minivan again in my future anytime soon.

For now, I’m enjoying the opportunity to watch the bright smile on this adorable little soccer star’s face.

Are your kids in any organized sports? Got any tips for managing the schedule madness?

We just started soccer with our 6 (almost 7) yr old son. The first game is this weekend. He’s loved the practices so far. This is our first (well, second) attempt at organized sports. We tried karate through the local karate club. “Senpai Herb” with his gruff manners and all of his chest hair sticking out freaked out our son. We lasted one week. :) Soccer seems to be a much better fit for us. We just broke down and got a mini-van a few months ago. Opens up a whole new world of possibilities. We can actually take a road trip, put the kids in different rows and don’t have to worry about the “She’s touching me/He’s looking at me” fits. Amazing… :)

We going to have any Team Emily t-shirts made that we can wear at the tailgate parties?

Our sons are now 25 and 28 and were soccer, baseball, football kicker and golf players. Oh, and I forgot swimmers too. Now our ten and thirteen year old daughters play field hockey, cheer, dance and throw in some softball and soccer between the two of them. I was never so thankful for a gas station that has healthy made to order meals and the organizations that provide the coupons as fundraisers making the meals affordable. And we love our Honda Odyssey. Enjoy!

Huge soccer fan, here. I played from kindergarten thru college. When(if) we have kids and if(when) they’re interested in soccer, I’m totally going to ref the games. I’ve always wanted to do that.

Great pics! They’re so much more fashionable now than when I played. :)

Congrats on entering “Kid World.” My girls are grown so I am sort of out of the mode. However, I would suggest that you find a carpool, tell your daughter that you have a headache and then stay home. :) Then again, she may never speak to you again so you will want to go. Enjoy it my blogging friend. These days will go by way too fast.

Ha ha, I’m sure there will be days when we ditch her at practice and go do something for an hour. Right now it’s all we can do to remember and get all of her stuff there on time! :-)

Resist the mini van…Honda Pilot (seats the same number of people AND all the soccer stuff).

My best piece of advice would be volunteer whenever they need you and when ever you can…other parents will thank you-no body likes the parent who is always to busy to help (even if its for 5 minutes)

Nice Brad…we are soccer parents too. He is what will now happen…you will become the obnoxious soccer dad..

Not hard for us to juggle because we only have the one child so no advice from me except to say…have fun with this. As she learns the game it becomes really fun.

I’m with Steve Salyards. Become a coach and schedule practices for the best time/place for your own family. If you want the best seat in the house for viewing games, become a referee. Nobody else has a view of the game that comes close to being right out there on the field with the kids.
