Ten Years Ago
POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Family
Wow, time flies when you’re having fun. Was it really only ten years ago today that I was captivated by that beautiful woman walking down the isle towards me? That skinny computer geek and pretty Pastor’s kid had no idea what the next ten years would hold for them.
Ten years ago we were both lost in love with a head full of dreams.
Ten years ago we were still just beginning to discover who we were.
Ten years ago I had yet to write my first blog post and Tweeting was still reserved for the birds.
Ten years ago our world was so incredibly small but our young eyes saw opportunities everywhere.

Dr. Seuss’ Oh The Places You’ll Go seemed more than just a little appropriate for us when we started this journey. We had no clue the places we would go or the people we would meet. We were “on our way up…seeing great sights” ready to “join the high fliers who soar to high heights.”
But like most young couples we quickly realized that life had a way of knocking you off your high horse. Opportunities don’t always fly in your window like sparrows in the springtime singing a happy song. We often had to chase them down.
We’ve had some amazing wins through the years but we’ve also had plenty of losses.
We’ve started businesses but we’ve also seen some fall apart underneath us.
We’ve made some good money at times and experienced times when our refrigerator was as empty as our bank account.
We’ve given birth to two beautiful girls but we’ve also cried over a baby that was taken from us before she was born.
We’ve lived in everything from large houses to small apartments – even a mobile home and hotel along the way.
But in the midst of everything we’ve been through one thing has stayed the same. Lisa was and still is right by my side. Through thick and thin. That girl has more adventure and courage in her little toe than most people I know.
These 10 years have been quite a ride. God has done so much in our lives and yet I keep coming back to this verse: “Forget all that — it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do a brand-new thing” (Isaiah 43:18-19)
These 10 years with Lisa have been the best 10 years of my life. But we’re only just getting started…
Oh the places we’ve yet to go!

I love that you referenced “Oh The Places You’ll Go” — it goes to show that Dr. Seuss has a lot of life lessons for everyone to appreciate.
I’m still in the first year with my husband — I can’t imagine 10!

That suit is sharp! I also had a three-piece when I got married, but it was tan, and the vest matched the suit. I love the gray tie/vest/handkerchief combo.

How did you make it look like the photo was taped on your post? Such a cool effect… I wish I had the technical prowess to do stuff like that on my blog.

Yeah I wanted to ask that too Dennis, how would you get that look like a tapped tape on the photo and not just look like a mark on the photo… looks more like a scrapbook.

I love how you updated the wedding photo at the beginning of the post by adding the blue tint and bubbles. It did modernize it!

Hi Brad,
I guess you reached the 11 year anniversary, which in some ways is even more special because it’s less of a milestone and more of an intimate reaffirmation.

It seems that you still have the passion, albeit, more tempered with wisdom and maturity that you had ten years ago. The world needs that.

I just hit the twenty year mark with my husband last fall, and I feel fortunate. Half of my friends didn’t make it this long. That 50% statistic is very real, after all…
…but for a fellow survivor, enjoy the ride!
