This Is One Tie I Would Wear

I came across this ingenius piece of men’s accessory apparel this past week (ht to my friend Vernon Rainwater). This brings back fond memories of those scratchy little cassette tapes that would always get eaten by my red boombox. I’ve tried to explain to my kids that yes, our technology was so basic back in the 80s that our music playing devices would actually sometimes “eat” the tapes and, if you weren’t careful, you might actually record over your Foreigner’s Agent Provocateur cassette if you pressed the wrong button by accident. Good times.

So what do you do with all those cassettes of The Eagles sitting in your garage? Turn them into a necktie of course!

These Recycled Cassette Tape Neckties ties are made out of something called “sonic fabric” which is woven from 50% recorded audio cassette tape and 50% colored thread (his same “sonic fabric” is even used to create a sweet-looking fedora). Here’s the best part – since the ties are made out of recycled cassette tapes, the fabric is actually audible if you run a tape head over it! Although I wouldn’t advise trying to play your tie – play them backwards and you might hear “Satan…Satan…Satan…”

If you could have a sonic-fabric tie made out of one of your old cassette albums, which one would you choose?

I’m not a tie guy either, but those are cool. What a great way to reuse old technology.

I wonder if they have the Beatles “White” album? =)

I think the last tape I bought was still in the mid 90’s and it was Blackstreet….. I still have a handfull left that I saved, but never listen to of course. Maybe we should all pitch in a few and make a competing business model with more contemporary ties as those examples are jank….
