Pink Toenails
POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Family
I’m not sure exactly when I got the job (or why I even agreed to do it in the first place) but I’ve been painting Lisa’s toes for about as long as we’ve been married. I’m careful about where and to whom I divulge this little piece of information since it is usually greeted with a variety of responses, and usually a good degree or harassment from other guys.
Granted, I realize the “painting toe nails” isn’t the best thing to list under the Additional Skills section of your resume but I suppose people naturally assume artists are just better at stuff like that.
At some point my daughters began to realize that Daddy was the one to ask when they wanted their nails painted and so I picked up a couple of extra clients.

Let me be clear about a few things.
1. I do not paint my own nails nor do I think I will ever be emo enough to start. I’ve only had my nails painted once, but what youth pastor hasn’t?
2. I will not paint your nails, so don’t bother asking. I suppose there are privileges to living under my roof and having Dad paint your nails is one of them. That’s a perk I don’t plan on extending to others.
3. If you’re going to paint your nails invest in some decent polish. No artist likes to work with second-rate paint.
So yes, as a Dad to two girls and the husband of a beautiful wife I find myself surrounded by girls. I suppose that and the fact that I wield a pretty mean paintbrush has destined me to many years of painting nails.

Brad, I think that you need to start teaching classes to men…
How ’bout we start with: “Husband & Dad Of The Year, 101″ I have a student for you, and two sons who could start learning now so that they’ll bless their wives in the future.
I think it’s fantastic that you not only do this, but that you’ve written about it here on your blog. The world needs leaders like you.

My husband is the resident nail-trimmer. Does that count?
He painted my toe-nails when I was on strict bedrest in the hospital before I delivered our precious little girl. I’m pretty sure he’s painted her toenails a time or two, as well.
So, don’t worry, you’ve got company in the pedicure department.
And in this house? We wouldn’t trade our Daddy for anything!

I had two girls but was never asked to do this. My wife doesn’t paint any part of her so if I did this it would be to only torture her. But I would have to tie her down to do so. I think my girls might have been afraid that dad’s hand would suddenly go spastic (by accident of course). However, i will say this, if/when I come to ride, leave your paint stuff at home or you will be riding alone. Then again, you already said you wouldn’t do someone else’s toes.

I think it is wise of you to be selective about who you share this info with. May not be something you would ever want to get out in the public domain.

I’m known to be a finger painter rather than a fingerNAIL painter…..No, not very good at it, but I do kinda enjoy it. Don’t judge!
I’ve also been known to let my daughter and maybe my wife, paint my toenails…Again, don’t judge!

I asked BJ to paint my toenails when I was 8 or 9 months pregnat because I couldn’t bend over, but I got a firm “No.” and “ask one of your girlfrends to do it.”
Other then that, I am a little crazy about pedicures and manicures. I can’t just paint my toe nails I have to do the whole pedicure. It’s silly, but if I don’t, I will stare at my feet and want to start over…

BJ told his pregnant wife that he wouldn’t paint her toenails?? Wow, I’m disappointed. We’ll have to work on that one.

Brad,
You get a pass if said nail painting occurs at home.
That said, carrying polish in your fanny pack just in case the girls need a touch-up is a definite no-no.
But then, take any input from me on manliness with a ginormous grain of salt. I’ve appeared more than once in ladies’ clothing at a church comedy night.

Guilty as charged, one closet nail painter here, and I would do it over and over again for my two girls. Like you Brad, I’m not accepting any new clients.

Sigh…I wish my husband would paint my toes. He has a weird anti-foot fetish. He can’t even stand for my feet to touch him in the night. He’s weird that way.
