Our New Family Member
POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Family
On Monday we welcomed our newest little family member into our home. And I do mean little. She’s just under 8 weeks old and weighs 1-1/2 pounds. Her parents were both under 5 pounds so when she is full-grown she should only weigh around 4-5 pounds.

Her name is Bella and she has managed to capture the hearts of everyone who has come over and seen her so far. Bella is a designer breed called a Mal-Shi or Malti-Tzu, which is half Maltese and half Shih-Tzu. As you know if you’ve been following me on Twitter we’ve been looking for a dog for a couple of months now. The longer we looked the more we began to narrow down our search. Early on we decided that we wanted a smaller dog (nice thing about small dogs? Everything is cheaper – smaller crates, less food, easier to transport). Trying to find that was small enough and cute enough to pass the “There-Is-No-Way-I’m-Going-To-Walk-In-The-Park-With-That” test proved to be the challenge.
We found several adorable dogs online in different states but nothing close to Indy. Then over the weekend Lisa spotted an add in the paper for Mal-Shi pups. She called on them and found out that the parents were both under 5 pounds and that they had two females left. Bingo.
We drove over later that afternoon and fell in love with this adorable little fur-ball.

We’ve gotten quite a kick out of little Bella although we realized just how much like a child a little puppy can be when Lisa and I had to get up 3 times during the night to let her go to the bathroom.

Watching her play in the grass is hilarious because the grass is as tall as her.
And so, after years of waiting we have finally joined the ranks of proud dog owners and our two girls couldn’t be happier. As for Lisa and I? Well, we’re more like proud parents that we would probably care to admit. I’ve already caught Lisa showing her off and sending pictures of her online. If you know Lisa, you know how big of a deal that really is!
So this post is for all the pet owners out there…what kind of pet(s) do you have and what do you love about them?

Oh my goodness, he is soooo cute!! I wish I could convince my husband to get a little dog. But he’s a big, stinky Lab guy. *sigh*
For now we have two cats, and I love them because, well, because I love cats! And one of them thinks that I’m her mom, so that gives her some bonus points.

She is DARLING!! I love her.
We have 2 cats and one rescue cat that needs a home, but only because our living is not conducive to dogs at this point in our life.
Each one of our cats have unique and great personalities.
My husband and I are both suckers for animals – we love cats and dogs.

We move around too much to have a dog right now, but I’d never have anything other than a German Shepherd. Loyal, smart and HUGE…just like I like em
. Your lil guy looks like an appetizer

We have a fish, “Gill”, and what we love about him is that he’s such a great listener. He puts up with a large amount of neglect, and yet still loves us with fierce loyalty at the end of the day.

We have a dog named Tye who is cool with the kids big time, and that really helps as it is the first dog the kids have been around. We also have a cat, but I am sure God with forgive us.

Laura – or about as much “fierce loyalty” as an animal with a 10 second memory span can have, right?

Cute dog! Of course, I didn’t need to say that. But congrats. I lost the battle of “small / big dog.” We got another choc lab puppy. Seems like those Shih-tzus are the go-to breed to mix with everything for extra cuteness. Kind of like cranberry juice. It just goes with everything.

Oh, she is just so cute.
Kirk and I have two cats: a petite little girl named Diva with the most gorgeous blue eyes and dainty white, pink-padded paws who is pretty attached to me and will cry very loudly if she thinks we have left her alone in the house; and a huge black boy cat named Solomon with gorgeous copper eyes and a general disdain for anyone but Kirk, whom he follows around the house like an adoring servant.
It’s pretty funny to me, how the two cats cling to each one of us differently.
I only had dogs growing up, so these two cats are a huge divergence from my usual pet preference. But I fell in love with them when I met them while I was dating Kirk.

Can’t wait to see her in person. Enjoyed the pictures and movie. She is so cute. You can put the peppermint oil on her paws and in her shampoo. Love all of you.

My wife and I have two daschunds, aka wiener dogs. They’re hilarious…heads bigger than their bodies and super long. One is old and lazy and the other is young and spastic. When he runs around it reminds me of when you let go of a balloon and watch it go!

I don’t have a pet yet, but after seeing your little Bella I know exactly what I want! I had been looking at shi-tzu’s anyway, but they can be rather large at times, and I want the smaller, more teacup size pet. I was hoping to do a rescue dog, but can’t afford the adoption fees….I guess I’l put that on my wish list for my birthday! I will check our area for this particular breed – she is a heart stealer for sure!

ADORABLE! I would enjoy a small dog like this, but hubby prefers a larger dog so we’ve talked about a Golden Retriever. But you’ve certainly found a cute one!
