Spider-Man and Tigers and Butterflies, Oh My!

Spider-Man and Tigers and Butterflies, Oh My!

Yesterday was a fun-filled and busy day for many families with young children and ours was no exception. Aside from the fact that it was Halloween, it was also my birthday, and yes, I do get a little uncomfortable that so many people dress up just to celebrate it. I spoke at a church in Mooresville yesterday morning then headed home to put the finishing touches on all of our costumes.

I convinced Lisa to let me paint her as a tiger. Here kitty kitty…

Emily was a butterfly. As you can see from the smudges and one solitary antenna, it was rather challenging to keep her costume pulled together. She had fun anyway.

Chloe dressed up as a Beauty Queen (which was really just an excuse to put on lots of makeup).

I went as a Roman Centurion. And yes, there is a story behind this costume. Earlier this summer Chloe was out hitting some garage sales and came across this costume someone was selling. She thought it was so cool that she paid $15 of her own money for it so I could wear it for Halloween (a big deal for someone who holds on to every dollar she can). I added a sword to complete it and painted a beard on since I can’t grow facial hair worth a darn. I have to say, it was kinda fun walking around with my hand on my sword all night.

We met up with some friends and headed out on the only night where it is acceptable to ask complete strangers for candy.

Earlier in the weekend we also carved some pumpkins. I decided to go with Spider-Man.

Emily carved Darth Vader (with a little help from Dad) and Chloe and I carved Yoda for her pumpkin.

We had a chilly but fun night trick or treating last night and came home with way more candy than any kid should be allowed to eat. Looks like I might have to help take some of it off their hands…

Did you or your kids dress up yesterday? What did you go as?

On Friday night we attended a Halloween Party that was a fundraiser for the YMCA:We Build People program. I went as a BP Executive and my wife went with two other ladies as the Black-eyed Peas.

Our kids got a double dose of Halloween goodness. We took them to my mom’s church for a Trunk or Treat on Saturday and they walked around the neighborhood on Sunday. We had ourselves a Spiderman and a Kitten.

Your Spiderman pumpkin was pretty awesome. I went with Buzz Lightyear.

Brad! Awesome pumpkins :) You should totally enter them in the “This Old House” pumpkin carving contest! Yours and the girls’ carvings definitely deserved to be on there. (Here’s a link to this year’s winners:
