How To Plant A Church
POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Church Planting, Videos
A church planting friend of mind sent me this video a couple of weeks ago and I got a kick out of it. It’s sort of an inside joke among church planters that all you need is piles of cash, a couple nice pair of jeans and a trendy haircut to plant a church. If you look at what most church planters look like these days you would almost wonder if there’s an unspoken dress code.
So if you’ve ever wondered how to plant a church, here’s everything you need to know in just 3 minutes.

I love it! I am not a church planter but feel as if I am. I reckon I got it all wrong. I am a cyclist so I am fairly slim but wear shirts outside my pants. I have no hair so no spike (although my wife says my hair is spiky so I need to have it cut). I wear Wrangler jeans from that less than Christian store: WalMart. And I definitely don’t have piles of cash. Hmmm wonder why God is working?
thanks for giving me a chuckle Brad.
Side: reckon it is getting too late to get a ride in?

CPM (Church Planting Movements) has become a popular phrase in the Christian missions and church planting world. But what I am finding as I travel the globe and exchange ideas with many different leaders is a watering down of the meaning of CPM. I had one leader declare, “I have been doing CPM for more than 25 years!” Yet, when I began to ask questions about his ministry, he was redefining his very traditional ministry as CPM

Great advice. In one sense. church planting involves many disciplines and best practices can be built around all of them. On the other end of the scale, it is good to get a clear idea of the core essence of the mission. I like to think of a church as a “community of God’s dreams” and the call to worship, to saved and unsaved, churched and unchurched, is a call to the ‘God-given’ dreams burning (or smolderng) inside each of us. In that respect (and not to diminish the need to the comprehensive perspective one bit), the planting mission in its simplest, basic level, is about having a meaningful conversation around God-given dreams… than finding creative ways to deepen and multiply that rich experience as many ways as you can.
