Dead Birds, Fish & The End of the World

Dead Birds, Fish & The End of the World

POSTED IN: Blog Posts, Culture

Blogs and local news agencies have been abuzz in this past week with stories of mass populations of animals who are mysteriously dying without any apparent reason. The story that started with the thousands of blackbirds that fell from the sky in Arkansas on New Year’s Eve.

Since that story broke, new instances of mass animal deaths have been popping up around the world. 300+ Turtle doves in Italy, hundreds of dead pelicans…

…150 tons of red tilapia in Vietnam, 40,000 crabs in Britain, 2 million dead fish in the Chesapeake Bay…

In what was perhaps one of the most tragic instances of animal deaths, the beloved Twitter bird was found dead among the thousands of black birds in Arkansas.

Someone posted a link to this Google Map that is tracking the mass, unexplained animal deaths around the world. The mass deaths are more than a little unsettling when you see them all displayed around the world like this.

Needless to say, end-of-the-world theorists are pointing to this as definitive signs that time is short for everyone on this planet while end-times scholars are trying to find new ways to interpret these animal deaths according to verses in Revelations.

Before anyone gets too carried away, it’s important to remember that mass animal deaths like this occur all the time. On average, 163 such events are reported to the federal government each year, according to USGS records. And there have been much larger die-offs than the 3,000 blackbirds in Arkansas. Twice in the summer of 1996, more than 100,000 ducks died in Canada.

But that explanation is too boring. The end of the world makes for much better conversation around the water cooler, right?

Just for fun, let’s jump on the conspiracy bandwagon for a minute. What do YOU think is to blame for all these unexplained animal deaths around the world? Military Experiments? Global Warming? Signs of the times from Revelations? Glen Beck?

Weigh in with your explanation below… (the more far-fetched, the better)

I’m glad you started a post like this – I was going to, but I can’t do it justice like you can ;)

If you take a serious look at that map, you can’t help but be a little freaked out. What’s worse, is the scientific explanations for why this is happening. They sound as unrealistic and stupid as the conspiracy theorists explanations.

I don’t think it’s the end of the world because if my prophetic memory serves me, we skipped a few key events to the end of days, but any time something inexplicable happens in our world, it serves as a great reminder that this world is a temporary place and that some day, Christ will return.

In the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, it’s easy to focus on our routines and forget about our purpose – speaking from personal experience. Birds falling from the skies and tons of fish washing ashore, while odd, do serve as a great reminder of the brevity of life and of His imminent return – but maybe that’s just me.

If you think about the food chain mixed with Oil Spills all over the world. It makes sense to me. Look into the past of oil spills as well as the past major die offs of animals. If small organisms that certain species of fish live off are effected by the oil spill, and the fish eat them and die. Then the birds eat the fish and fly somewhere together and die. I mean for example, 100,000 dead fish in Arkansas rivers, then thousands of dead birds a couple miles away, not related at all? seriously? If you check into all the oil thats been spilled where and when, theres deffinately correlation with the deaths of fish and birds. And even though its been happening for years, we’ve been spilling oil since the 1970′s.

    I blame Justin Bieber.

Here’s what happens…(I heard a scientist at a university explaining this phenomenon the other day):

Over the past 15 years, studies have shown that birds (class Aves) have developed (or de-eveloped if you ask me) an innate sense of satellite transmissions which paralyzes their central nervous systems, often caused by flying at high altitudes. This timing corresponds directly to the rise of the use of the internet (caused by those free AOL CDs) in the mid to late 1990′s. The animal feels something like an electric shock in their central nervous system during periods of high bandwidth use worldwide, causing them to literally drop like flies.

I find it interesting that these occurrences have coincided with periods of active Twitter usage. On the interwebs, we see our nemesis, Mr. The Fail Whale, when this happens. Birds, on the other hand, perish.

So, dead birds are the new Fail Whale. How ironic. Please, for the birds’ sake, don’t tweet about this.

Shame on you, Justin Bieber. I hope you’re happy.

No big prophetic insight here. Just a smile on my face because of the very nature of the topic – and of course the witty remarks. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not making light of the situation. Cause and effect happens all around us and always has. There will always be speculators and prophets…some wiser than others, no doubt. I’m trying to live in the present in relation to how I treat all of God’s creation. Concern does not have to coincide with conspiracy. Ok.

Even more ironic is that Justin Bieber and Justin “The Beaver” sound very much alike.
Beavers are destroying our forests at alarming rates and killing off wildlife with flooding that is created from their destruction.

So, Curtis…you have hit on it. Justin Bieber is completely to blame. I retract my Apps comment.

    Hey there Brad,

My people tell me that the oil never actually disappeared, BP sprayed this red powder on the oil which sucked up the oil, then sank to the bottom of the ocean, and i just sitting there. The map shown here shows, most of the strange deaths happening around an ocean current, if the fish eat the goop and the birds eat the fish?! Maybe?

The ducks dying in Canada were the result of them flying and landing into oil sands waste run off from producing oil and fuels, they are lakes of more goop, they get stuck and die.

Or it have something about that new satellite that the US and German governments sent up to space a bit ago according to wiki-leaks, Germany could be testing it on their neighbors, and US could be testing it on themselves using the BP oil spill as a cover.

Just my thoughts . . Hmm there is a black van in front of my house, hmmm . .

Little bit more info. There have been almost 500 earthquakes in Guy, AR since Sept. 20th. There were 5,000 bird deaths in Beebe AR. Days before(number not known) bird deaths in Batesville, AR. 100,000 drum fish washed ashore in Arkansas river. There was a magnetic flux on Dec. 31st. I assume HARRP playing with an energy beam.? Which all we can do is speculate. Fireworks would have left several injuries on the birds not the one sudden blunt force trauma to the chest. Storms were already gone from the area.

    ok … new thought …
The birds/fish/etc are all dying because of Tim Ferriss new book “The 4 Hour Body”

The birds/fish realized that since the book came out a few weeks ago and has soared to the top of the bestseller’s list … that most people will soon have lost all their fat, be having incredible sex and be superhuman, so the birds/fish knew there was no way they would ever be the top species, so they gave up and died.

btw … love the use of abuzz in your first line.
