Web App Review: Animoto

Web App Review: Animoto

There’s a host of new web applications coming out every day. Most are just hype but a few really stand out as something unique and useful. Animoto is one that is not only useful but also amazingly easy and fun to use.
Animoto is a web application that creates MTV-style videos with the click of a [...]

News At A Glance: Newsmap

News At A Glance: Newsmap

Newsmap is an application that visually reflects the constantly changing landscape of the Google News news aggregator. A treemap visualization algorithm helps display the enormous amount of information gathered by the aggregator, which is a fancy way of saying that Newsmap displays all the top stories visually on one page…

Rebooting The White House

Rebooting The White House

Yesterday marked the inauguration of not only our first African-American president, but also our most tech-savvy. Obama is the first president to release a web video address, he’s glued to his BlackBerry and is a known Mac enthusiast. So it’s no surprise that one of the first and most public signs of his administration at work was the new WhiteHouse.gov web site that launched yesterday at noon…

A Brief History Of The Internet

A Brief History Of The Internet

We’re on it every day. It’s an infrastructure that spans geographical, economic and cultural barriers. The Internet generates more new information in a single day than a person was likely to come across in his entire lifetime 200 years ago. But where did it come from? How did it start?

This Makes Me Happy

This came in the mail today. It’s the upgrade for the newly released Adobe Creative Suite 4. I’m a true geek when it comes to new software or application upgrades. I pretty much spend most of the day digging through it and assimilating all the new tools, options and features into my design-geek-consciousness.
I am [...]

I Heart Video-chats

I love Skype (username: RugglesCreative).
I can chat with my brother (above) and friends back in Fort Wayne even though they’re 2 hours away. The kids get to show Grandpa and Grandma a new outfit they just got or the latest acrobatic stunt even though we’re 5 hours from them. We get to stay in touch [...]

5 Tips for Becoming A Social Network Butterfly

The Internet is changing daily. In the last few years we’ve seen the rise of sites like Facebook and Twitter as millions have joined the social networking trend. But social networking isn’t just for business professionals trying to find new sales leads or socially inept computer nerds trying to retreat from the real world.
No matter [...]

My First Web Site Design

I recently discovered a web site called the Wayback Machine (ht: nickasolas) that has archived over 100 terabytes and 10 billion web pages from 1996 to the present. You’ll find some interesting pieces of Internet history such as the original web sites for Internet Movie Database (Nov. ‘96), NASA (June ‘97) and Yahoo (Dec. ‘96).
You’ll [...]

Make Your Mac Sing A Silly Song

Here’s a fun little trick to impress your friends. If you are on a Mac copy the below text, paste it in your “Terminal” window and hit enter.
